I always say, "well, at least I have a cause of forgetting social graces, what is yours?"

I usually avoid the term asperger's syndrome - I just call it a very mild form of autism. I know that could lead to people's thinking I'm worse off than I actually am, but if they still believe that after getting to know me well enough to ask me why I'm different than they are, they just haven't been paying enough attention.

(Did you like my run-on sentence?)

I pronounce it "asperjers" for this very reason (plus I think it sounds better)

Not to be a jerk, but I've heard of others in the forum who use the pronounciation "asperjers"; it always sounded to me like ass purgers, which would suggest diarrhea. But then again, how many NT kids use a term like "purger", that it would come to mind? So I suppose "asperjers" is a good alternative.

I've always done the same. It's moreso when people see it written and pronounce with the "g" sound instead of "j". Fecks me right off. >_<

I thought for the longest time, it was pronounced like that. o.O

It wasn't until recent that I found out it was pronounced, "as-per-gers". I sometimes have a hard time hearing certain combining letters I guess.

I thought it was pronounced like that coz that's how my mum always says it, and even though I know it's wrong I still say it like that.

I know how it's pronounced and I always make a point to ensure all the letters are what they are. The problem here is auditory ... the "P" sounds so much like a "B" which is the problem, if you slow down to say it then if they say "ass burgers" you can reply "no, that is not how I pronounce my 'B' you are hearing things"

I just opt to call it AS

Ass Burgers? hmm. well I probably would't care much if someone said that, I don't think many people realize the fact there is such thing as Aspergers but it does sound like Ass Burgers sometimes the way its pronounced I guess, I wouldnt make a big deal of it, Id just act cool and laugh it off, but thats just me, I try not to get angry about stuff.

I don't care if somebody makes fun of the name just as long as they don't make fun of the disorder itself. Which in most cases, when people say "assburgers", they often do it to make fun of the disorder as well, I do feel your pain.

Call me stupid, but what is that? I've heard of it but I've never figured it out.

when people hear the term "Asperger's" in Asperger's Syndrome, they "hear" ass and burgers, and that gives them the visual picture of little asses on hamburger buns so they think it is a funny name for a Autistic spectrum condition.
