Fast food jobs suck... don't ever do it... it's a AS nightmare. I have had a job at onefor the past year and it's truly an Aspie nightmare. They pulled me aside telling me that if I didn't become my friendly to customers then I'd be fired. I don't make enough eye contact, I don't smile enough, I am not a good enough NT. Plus I get bullied by several guys there and of course they don't get in trouble for it. it's BS man, plus everyone violates my personal space. It's not that big of a deal but it does get tiresome from time to time. I guess it's a good learning experience.

I refused to work at a fast food chain. Absolutely refused. I heard stories of how anal they were.

I once tried to work at a fast food joint. I didn't last three days. :?

While i've never worked at a fast-food joint...my cousin [who is NT] worked at one last year. He nick-named it the "hell-hole".
From what he described it to be like, I don't think I'll be applying for a job in one EVER.

I will NEVER do it. I have anxiety problems, difficulty with crowds, I can't handle noise, I'm scared of cooking with frying things (and would probably be sick if I saw the amount of fat added to some of those places), and I just can't deal with all the people asking stuff of me that I couldn't deliver (plus what would happen if I had a meltdown?)

That is why I work in Casual Dining, same sensory overload, but pays better. For some reason, maybe it is the placid decorations that keep me at Cracker Barrel without freaking out too much.

Before I found out how horrible these places are to work at...I applied for a job at one. I didn't even make it to the interview.

I kept getting confused about things, and easily distracted by my co-workers and the customers. Co-workers would try small talk while I was working, and I couldn't juggle small talk and work, like NTs can. Of course, they fired me because they gave the stock excuse, "It just wasn't working out."

Aww, I'm sorry. I feel your pain, I'm surprised I've made it a year myself. I made so many mistakes myself, I got laughed at pretty badly. I did deserve it as I was truly an idiot at stuff but I learned and now I just need to be more friendly which I can do. I'm impressed that I now can have 10 people in line, do their orders, help a new person with theirs, and get the customers drink within 3 minutes. Speed isn't my issue but it's hard, I like small talk though when there are no customers. Otherwise it'd be boring although the gossip gets a bit old.

Glad to hear that your job is working out! You can inspire other aspies!

I'm surprised I am still there when I told one kid that he would look like a good actor for the Omen. I had to apologize. This is among a couple other things I had to go to the manager's office for.

When I bussed, some evil paranoid waitress decided to persuade a guest to write me off for taking a tip. Thankfully my wallet was empty and I was free to go.

That's a problem that I ran into in other jobs, too. Co-workers trumping up lies about me because they didn't understand me. :(

LOL I know how you feel I got fired after a month and they wouldn't give me a reason. I was mad at first then I was relieved

I work in food service, I never smile or make eye contact, and my manager's don't even care enough to notice. Once in a while they joke about my lack of smiling, but other than that they do not care. I guess I'm lucky.
