I'm wondering if anyone has had a problem somewhat like mine: starting and focusing in on homework, especially after a day with work or other activities.

I have found, quite recently, that I find it takes considerable time to actually start homework. Even when I get into it partially, I have noticed that some of the time I drift away from the homework subconsciously and begin pace around (the very messy) apartment.

Is there any possible advice? I detest weakness of the will and suboptimal self-performance like this.

I have the same problem, it also takes me longer than it should, to do the actual homework.

You describe me perfectly.

There is no other way to put it

Well, my main problem is that "starting it" takes atleast an hour and a half, distrupted by constant intervals of pacing until I really get immersed in it. I curse my slow processing speed more than anything else.

Used to have the same problem, still kind of do, but I don't have much homework to do in my senior year. I would just force myself to start it, and I'd always finish it quicker then expected. The stresses of homework always come before you start it though, and it never is that bad during the actual work. Usually I get so focused on my homework that my mind flows like a river towards its destination without much effort. It's only when I think about the actual act of doing homework and not the individual questions do I get stressed.

Exactly my issue as well, Master_Pendant. Also one of the main reasons I'm doing poorly in school; during the day I'll promise myself I'll go straight home and do the assignment, but once I do get home it takes me forever to get myself started, sometimes not even at all. When I -do- start, in the beginning my concentration will drift here and there, but once I start actually getting into it like LucidDreamGod said, the flow of energy gets it done.

I'm just like that when I'm stressed out or upset. When I'm doing fine I have no problem with homework.

It takes me aaaaaages to start homework but it doesn't really bother me.
It takes me aaaaages before I start revising for exams as well, last minute revision pretty much is all I do for exams.

I also have this problem in exactly the same way as you all describe, but I feel as though a lot of other NT people have the same problem, for example; my neighbours often complain to my parents that their children never get down to any work.

Oh, yes. I have a horrible time starting things, but once I finally do I don't have trouble finishing. I have a project for History due on Monday and I've barely done any work on it. I never did start that one assignment for Lit...I should probably get to that before the end of the school year. Most of the time everything works out fine because I work quickly and focus well (unless I try to multitask), but sometimes not. I didn't study nearly enough for my AP History test last month.

It's not just us, though. Procrastination and unmotivation are pretty trendy for NTs right now.

I tend to be ahead of the trends in some of my behavior. When I was in school, I could never make myself get started doing my homework. With the exception of writing, homework was always easy, but it always just felt so pointless. I mean, why should I do the same basic math problem 50 times (with different numbers put in) when we went over it, and I understood it in class?

My psychologist has recently started giving me homework. I have yet to do it all. Just keep putting it off, and putting it off...
