Ever since my diagnosis a few days ago I have felt very upset. Not because of the diagnosis--that doesn't change anything--but because my routine feels threatened. Everything feels different now, even though its not, and it's causing me a lot of stress inside. I am noticing everything I do more and more, and it just feels like my way of doing things is in disarray. It makes me feel very threatened, and when I make little mistakes I feel like everyone knows it, like I have a big S for stupid tatooed on my forehead. I always feel like that, but now it's worse.
I am very self-conscious right now, and feel very scattered because my routines are feeling different.
Advice...?

I felt that way for about a week and a half after finding out I have AS. Eventually, after thinking about it non stop, I realized that it didnt change anything about who I was, that I had AS before the diagnosis and this was just another word to add to my dictionary in case I needed it to explain myself.

It can be hard not to pick apart every little action to find all the places that this has affected your life, but keep in mind that these things made up who you are before you found out.

alei, thank you so much. What you said really helps. I feel like everything will settle down again. I knew it would, but sometimes, when you're up in it, it's hard to know that it really will happen. it really helps me to know I'm not the only one who has ever felt like this.

richardbenson, you helped too, and made me smile. My hair is already fairly long, and metal is ok, but I think I'll stick with some blues and some cool jazz. ... ok, and maybe some Megadeth.

cuddlykittykat, thank you, too. You are a big help.

Yeah, anytime you are learning something new, it seems to take over your life until it becomes old and then finds the appropriate spot in your life.
