Glad you figured it out. I've been trying herbal remedies with some success.

What are you taking?

Depending on how I am feeling will have an influence on what I want to take for a given evening. Many nights I try not to take anything so I don't become dependent on them. That usually doesn't work, but I still try.

The first thing I might consider for a given evening is a supplement that has a variety of things in it. Calcium, magnesium, L-Taurine, melatonin, Valerian, Hops, Skullcap, Chamomile, and Passion Flower. This usually helps me, but in the morning I can be very groggy for a number of hours after I am awake -espeically if I have taken two capsules. It is made by The Vitamin Shoppe.

Another thing I have tried with some success is a homeopathic from Hyland. It has in it dilute amounts of Hyoscyamus niger, Ignatia amara, and Kali Phosphoricum. This usually take about an hour to take effect, but it does help to calm me down a little and I will feel drowsy some. However, in the morning I have a clear head, but might not feel rested even after 7.5 hours of sleep (my normal amount).

The last one is fairly new to me. I have only tried it twice. It is an herbal tea. I have tried it twice and both times it has calmed me down and made me feel drowsy. It has in it organic rooibos, chamomile, passionflower, and valerian. It is made by The Republic of Tea.

Hope something from all this helps.

Just for fun, I bought a sound level meter. The roof noise often gets above 60 decibels.

It feels louder than that (even when I'm up during the day), but that's mostly because of the type of noise (objects slamming into each other, thud of fat feet, creaking and snapping noises).

God I wish I lived in a less expensive part of the country so that I could afford to live in a quiet building.

I'm going to take it to work to see how high it reads there. That building is poorly constructed and makes loud snapping noises all day, many of them are at painful levels (much louder than what I experience at home).

edit:
1:40 and I'm wide awake.

Thankfully, the guy above has been quiet since midnight, but I fell asleep for about 10 minutes beforehand, so my body treated it like a powernap (meaning, not sleepy, even with how tired I am). I just got up at 1:00 and popped a melatonin.

It's starting to kick in. If I'm able to fall asleep, everything will be fine, if not... it won't be pretty. Nights where you take melatonin and it doesn't work are the worst.

THANK GOD THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT SLEEP!! !

I've been having trouble with sleep for years now, and I found that I am able to sleep very late in the morning instead of earlier in the evening. But like so many others probably mentioned, the world of late requires you don't sleep so late and wake up at 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

How does one deal with the fact that even with sleeping pills you just don't feel sleepy tired and you can't shut your mind up when you DO TRY to go to sleep early?

He's stomping around really loudly right now. (thankfully it's still daytime).

Some of the stomps were enough to make the whole building shake.

Even if he's morbidly obese, this has to be intentional.

I have quite a problem with sleeping. Before, I thought that this also comes with the fact that I used to be living abroad in a very noisy dorm and been up with my roommates late, but almost a year passed since that and my insomnia just getting worse. I usually up until 3-4 in the night and naturally get up around 11(if I don't use alarm)

As I see the main problem is that it is just seems impossible to just naturally shot the brain off and not thinking but relaxing. Secondly I like working and doing all my stuffs during the night because it is so much calmer, quieter with no people or strong noise/light around. I can truly focus on whatever I'm doing without being distracted.(surprisingly though the tv has less effect on me if it's on) So sleeping just seems as a waste of good quality time.
Surely I know that our body needs sleeping and relaxing and I have no problem sleeping through after I have actually fallen into sleep. The problem is the transition between consciousness and unconsciousness as sth similar has been posted already here.

Also it makes life very hard since the normal day-night circle of people are different and it means I'm somehow living in a different timezone than everyone around me.
