steve leaves thursday for richmond!! !! his probation officer also said that there's a good possibility that if he goes to richmond and completes it (doesn't go AMA), that the two pi's might be dismissed.

hopefully he'll get himself straightened out.

thanks hermit,
yeah, i'm feeling a lot better. the stress level around here has gone down a couple of notches. i don't know if steve finally got the message or if maybe he was still going through withdrawal before (he had to get off of his pain medicine before he could go to the state hospital), but he is acting more like the man i married.

plus the neurologist thinks it's possible he has narcolepsy. he has had sleep problems since he was a teen. he had blood work done. i never thought he could have it because at night he doesn't hardly ever sleep, or sleep a little and wake up all night. but now i found out that that's kind of typical for narcolepsy. and if he sits or lays for any time at all in the day, he falls asleep, but normally only for a few minutes at a time. any way, after years of this problem, to finally maybe have an explanation helps (plus if steve has it, we will probably have to look into if our daughter has it as well--she's starting the same path as steve with the sleep).

things are just looking a lot better now than they have in a long time. hopefully he'll for however long they want him to go and come back more the man i married.

Will they check him for sleep apnea there? It could cause the same symptoms.

Also withdrawing from dependency on pain meds can make a person act not at all like themselves. He is going to Richmond, I assume, of his own free will and that is a definite plus.

he does have sleep apnea, but he still has chronic insomnia and nothing helps. plus he has problems with sleep paralysis. so i guess those are things that clued the neurologist that it might be narcolepsy. our teenage daughter has started having sleep problems too. she didn't have sleep apnea but she wasn't sleeping right which is why they thought she was getting so many headaches (another thing steve has had for years).

yes, he is going of his own free will. actually he has been trying to go inpatient for over a year. before he got arrested last year for dui, he had been turned away by the local psych ward. same thing both before and after his arrest for domestic battery this fall--and when he went to the er afterwards, he was facing a possible amputation on his arm and his best friend dying in his presence. everyone knew he needed to be in the state hospital (even the people doing the evaluations), but the local mental health wouldn't do anything.

we kept trying and finally was able to get in touch with the liason (with the same mental health that kept turning him away) and got the paperwork started. then we waited and waited and waited and nothing. his therapist couldn't do anything to get him in and his probation officer kept in touch with his therapist so knew that everyone's hands were tied. it wasn't until he got two pi's back to back that his therapist was able to push the liason to get him in. that's why his probation officer went ahead and talked to the prosecutor for him.

it's just really hard to get any help in this area.

i also think coming off of the pain meds hasn't helped any, but was needed. a couple of years ago he went off of most of his psych meds, which was good. several years are nothing but a fog for him. at that time he was in the mental health that controls the county (that wouldn't put him in patient) and all they did was dope him up. if one med didn't work, they added another. he was a walking zombie.

i do hope that this will really change things for him. the past 5-6 years have been so difficult for me. he just kept going down and down and down. hopefully he's on the uphill swing now.

steve left. some friends are taking him to richmond.

i'm relieved. it was hard, but i'm so glad that he's gone. i was under so much pressure with him here. even though he wasn't drinking, there was still a lot of pressure.

so now it's me and the kids and mammy. mammy has been crazy for close to a week now. hopefully she'll snap out of it soon.

i'm hoping that while he's gone, i can really work on myself and get me and the kids in a routine.
