I don't know if this is the right place, but today a coworker and I were discussing a project with our direct supervisor. My supervisor said something completely off topic, and I stared at him while frantically trying to think of what to say. While trying to do this, he turns to my coworker, punches his shoulder, and says, "she's like a robot, isn't she? She always has to process things. I'm surprised a piece of paper doesn't pop out of her mouth." And they laugh.

I am still not sure whether I ought to laugh or cry, although at the moment I just laughed because what else could I do? I think what bothered me the most was that I was so sure I was passing off "being normal" because I have kept this job for almost two years---but I guess I am not being "normal" enough.

It just really bothered me and threw me off for the whole day.

Dexkaden, without having being there, (and possibly not even then) I can't be sure whether that was an unthinking and unperceptive insult, or affectionate humour. I can see both as at least possible, but your take might lean me towards the former.

It's taken years at work, but we now pretty much understand each other, at least to the extent of understanding the areas where we *don't* understand each other.
A few years ago the girls I work with commented on my lack of emotional excitement and one said "Whatever would you do if we got you a strippagram for your birthday?" To which I replied ,"Mark her performance out of ten."
Hoots of laughter, with a slight edge as they weren't sure how serious I was.
(I'm not sure, either)

I'm sorry that your efforts were apparently defeated(at least this time), but i think you should tell them how hard you are trying, and maybe they will be more sensative to your efforts next time.

After sleeping it over and thinking it over and pretty much obsessing over it for the last while, I have decided to take it as a compliment--he hasn't ever been "mean" before, so I think it would be wrong to just assume otherwise from a little pride-wounding comment. I don't think they were being intentionally malicious, and it is true that I act kind of a like a robot. :)

Ok, but what is it like to "act like a robot" in your sense?

I don't really understand the question...

I think I am just being me, and I only used the term "robot" because that's what my coworker used. He said it's because I take a while to "process verbal instructions." It's true. Verbal instructions confuse me, so I take a little longer than most to memorize them.

Many of my peers have often stated that I act cold and machine-like, Usually when I suggest elimination of other people hampering the progress of others so as to complete things more efficiently. We can be performing an experiment and when one of my colleagues fails to accomplish an assigned task within the time allotted to or of sub-par quality, and I will suggest that they not partake in the experiment at all if someone else in the group can do a better job. I, however, see nothing wrong with this.

Ok. I'm a robot of flesh and bones, and for some reason I think a bug inside me is written so that I might stop functioning after I'll be 80-110 years I believe. I must fix that bug.
