today I made 2 people at work mad and three very uncomfortable. I thought they were mad at me and they weren't and this one girl kept saying fag and gay over and over again and i'm gay and it freaked me out so I made a big scene about being sorry if they didn't like me and just made a general idiot out of myself. i made two guys at work mad at me becuase i did something a customer wanted done even though it wasn't allowed and they had told the customer no so I made them look bad. I can't figure it out.

People shouldn't be saying things like "fag" at work, so if you are gay and that offends you then you should do something about it. I wasn't there to witness the "big scene" you refer to, so I don't know if it's necessarily the most appropriate response lol, but If it were me, i'd possibly be inclined to make a scene as well...Sounds like my work experience though..I find myself feeling like people are talking about me or are mad at me or just don't like me quite often. I think sometimes it might just be my imagination, but it is often hard to tell :?

Talk to your boss about the "Hostile Work Environment" created by your co-workers using terms like Fag and Gay. Be specific. They might already hate you, so it makes no difference on that level. On the other hand, they will either stop, get fired, or you can sue the crap out of your employer.

Put it down in writing, start a paper trail. You have the right to feel safe at work.

As for doing something for a customer you weren't supposed to - you've left yourself open on that one. You might consider talking to your boss about the way things are done. Not to confront, but to get clear and possibly find a solution to the problem.

This is what college is for - to get you a job where people don't use that kind of language.

I think "gay" and "fag" are constantly overused anyhow. I just laugh because someday, they will probably get beat up by a person who actually is gay and I just  if I'm told that I am because I am actually bisexual.

You do have the right to feel comfortable at work, however don't fight ignorance with more ignorance. Hold your head up high and walk up to them and say this "look I didn't mean to put you guys in a bad spot with the customer, my bad" and then you should also tell them straight up "listen I'm gay and if I can accept that then you guys better too, and if you don't then f**k you I'm here for a paycheck not your friendship" (that's assuming they are as*holes about it) really try and fix the broken bridges as much as you can. some people are just dickheads for sure, especially around those who are a little different, but I beleive most people are nice and understanding on the inside. try and be more honest with yourself and others.
