I'm having trouble with my sleep patterns at the moment. I'm going to bed to sleep late (between 1am and 3am) because I'm only tired then and waking up early (regardless of when I go to sleep). I think it may be stress related because there has been a lot of nasty behaviour towards me and my bf but anyways. If anyone has tips that may help, I'd like to hear them. Thanks for reading. Please forgive spelling mistakes.

How old are you? I know that teenagers in general just have later sleep patterns, and therefore rarely get enough sleep that they need.

I know that when my AS oldest son was a teenager, we tried Melatonin for a while. I don't think it helped him, but it has been known to help others. Also, I have "heard" that a smell like lilac or lavendar will help to relax people. Aromatherapy, possibly, could help.

I've been having trouble sleeping, off and on, lately, and I've been wondering if I'm over-stimulated by television and/or the computer. I was thinking of going back to the routine that we used to try with our children when they were little -- turning down the lights, reading a book before bed, doing something less stimulating just before you go to bed so that your brain gets a chance to swtich gears and slow down.

Thank you.

I'm 26, so I wouldn't say it's a teen issue (it's still possible that it's changing though). I do like the smell of lavender, though it doesn't make me sleepy.

My sleep issue is that regardless of when I go to sleep, I'm waking up at 7.00 / 7.30 (sometimes earlier) and not being able to even snooze after this point (a half hour snooze makes me feel better able to face the day).

I know it's a stress issue with me, one that is hopefully over for the moment but I know that the stress will happen again. I don't think melatonin would help me. Though, I'll try the pre-bed calming mesures you've said about, they may help me ease the stress off in future situations.

I am having a similar problem, my problem is definitely stress related since we have relocated to a small town, and I have lost my routines and familiarities. I am going to bed at around 1am and I have to get up for my kids at 6am and organized them for school, plus look after a toddler during the day. It's very hard at the moment, very distracting and a vicious cycle. I don't like to take drugs, the less reliance I have the better.

An old wives tale but also backed up by scientific proof is the age old glass of warm milk before bed. Milk contains amino acids which work to activate a hormone in the brain called serotonin this also helps increases your energy levels in the morning.

If all else fails go to the library, find a thick book on a topic that you have no interest in at all and start reading ... works for me! :D
