The school needs to start sorting out this crap
My school is useless.
They sprout all this anti-bullying stuff, and yet when people are being bullied they do nothing.
I have been bullied for three years straight. I am bullied because of my race, my beliefs, my thoughts and my feelings. My parents have spoken to them many times, I have been forced to speak to them many times, and yet nothing has been done. Many of my friends have also faced the same problem when they have been in lower classes; bullying because of their race and beliefs.
I wish that there was something I could do to make them listen. This crap shouldn't go on any longer; not for me, not for my friends, not for anyone at that school. The school needs to sit up and start sorting this stuff out; because honestly, it is just pathetic. I want to do something to make them listen; but yeah, I forgot, I'm just a student. I don't matter.
I agree. They talk a good game but never actually do anything. The advice they give to the kid who's being bullied only increases the problem. My son is bullied because he's quiet and shy and needs help because of his sensory issues. The kids are crafty enough to do something to my son without the teacher's notice and then when my son reacts (stands up for himself) he is the one who is punished. I think it's likely that the bully needs some sort of counseling but that's not going to happen because people will perceive that as indulging them. They need to have repercussions for their actions anyway . I can't think of any event where the bully was even talked to about their behavior.
Teachers are pretty useless in general (only a few are capable of teaching). With regards to the bullies, I too was bullied because I have a funny sounding surname and ginger hair. I stood up for myself and gave the bullies the beating of their lives. I was then expelled and labelled a bully myself. Yet I've never ganged up on anybody in my whole life.
I've found teaching myself alot more successful than relying on some twit who is just there because they are being paid to be.
Since becoming an adult and actually working in a school as an IT technician, you get to see the true side of teachers.
A select few are very good teachers and have a passion for their jobs, but most are just idiots. In one example a student did something wrong on a computer and because the teacher couldnt provide an answer, she just blamed the student for incompetence.
I wouldnt worry to much about school, you learn the basics there but the true enlightenment will come from yourself seeking your own knowledge later in life.
So i guess the lesson here is, dont do what i did, otherwise you will end up being expelled and the school you will end up in will be 10 times worse.
(just wanted to point out im from the UK so my view is purely from my experiences here)

A lot of people could give evidence that is so true on so many levels for their schools too.
What's said here is pretty good, as far as my experience relates.
Sometimes you just have to rely on karma to give its due.

Bullies seem to find a way to pick on a person in a way that doesn't get a teacher's attention. This is amplified by the knowledge that a certain teacher just doesn't care enough to notice discrete (actual) bullying. The only way for the victim to stop a bully sometimes is to "force" him to stop, so a person eventually reacts violently. That teacher recognizes this as bullying, even though it was a desperate act of self-defense.
The truth is, bullying can never be stopped completely. THEY know this. My school also called themselves a "Anti-Bully Zone", and they never put an end to it either, not even when I was bullied BY A TEACHER!! !! Sure, I filed a report against her - did they do a god-damned thing? Hell no! So why do they even try/claim this, if they know they can't/won't do anything???????????????????
That's part of why I stopped going to public school - the administration has their heads so far up their a$$es.

Reality is a nice place but I wouldn't want to live there
I think that my only option now is just to go to school each day and try to keep a low profile whilst teaching myself at home using the resources I have.
I have only acted aggressively and lashed out once, and that was last year when a group of girls started ganging up on me. They were crowding around me, yelling and screaming, and I did whatever I could to make them back off (which was to hit out at them). I can't even stand people I know and love standing that close to me, or yelling loudly, so why would I be able to cope when people who are verbally abusing me do it?
I've been told all the stuff about make a joke out of it and just walk away, but when I tried doing that it didn't make any difference; the bullies just came back for more
EDIT: Oh, and don't forget the option of changing schools, to go to another place where I'll be treated like s@#t, screamed at and forced to socialize with others.

And that is why I disagree with the zero tolerance policies...when a bully harasses someone, they get away,
when a victim defends themselves, they are punished to the fullest extent of this nonsense rule..
When they mean ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY, they mean ZERO TOLERANCE TO THOSE WHO DONT FIT IN AND NOT BULLYING...and the bullies are their Gestapo and the zero tolerance policy is the new version of the Nuremburg laws.
Get rid of the zero tolerance policy, and let those who are bullied defend themselves...EVEN IN COURTS, IF SOMEONE IS HARASSED AND ABUSED AND THEY HURT THEIR ABUSER/TORMENTOR, THE COURTS WILL RULE IT SELF DEFENCE AND THE VICTIM IS NOT PUNISHED FOR DEFENDING THEMSELVES.Schools are not courts and are therefore not bound by the same principles and rules of justice, giving them the power to secretly punish victims and reward bullies.Kids who are bullied are denied their right to fundamental justice and are thrown to the wolves...
Here are the rights that EVERYONE should be entitled to as per the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
12.Everyone has the right not to be subjected to cruel and unusual treatment or punishment.
15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

If I decide to go on to law school and become a lawyer, I would like to take a bullying case to court and represent the bullying victim free of charge (pro-bono), and if this victim is ignored when they let their issue be known to the school, then punished by the school when defending themselves, I would challenge the school's punishment in court as well as have the school held to account by the courts for their lack of due care and treatment of the victim.

You said others having been having the same problem. Have you tried going in as a group? It's easy for the school staff to dismiss you one at a time, but a united front might make them sit up and take notice. If it doesn't work the first time with just a group of students take the same group back with all their parents.

Yes, schools are useless. Everything I would say on that manner has already been said. As for bullies, the best way I have found to deal with them is to be completely non-reactive. This is HARD, but it worked better than anything else I tried. If you don't react, if their actions appear not to bother you, bullying loses its allure. There is a limit to this. If its major and physical (ex,I had my head repeatdly slammed in a locker last year) some form of self defense is nesacary. (Please excuse my spelling)

Yep, High schools are pretty much useless. In an academic level of that you later won't use 90 % of what you have learned hasn't any use in later life, and if I learn something that I find completely useless I will probably not know anymore after I finish school.
On a (anti)social level the problems are bigger though. If someone verbally abuses me or worse make me look like a fool for other people, I can't properly defend myself with words. So I defend with my fists. That wasn't a real problem in elementary school, there was nearly no bullying (at least for me, but generally the atmosphere was good so not for others as well I guess), and the nice thing was that if it was the case someone did something to you, whether it is verbal or physical, they wouldn't make a big fuss if your response was a kick or 1(or 2,3,4,5, as long as you didn't kill or permanently damage someone), and have a valid reason.
And most of the time the problem lied with youth hanging around school looking for trouble, so that wasn't within the jurisdiction of the staff:)
If you finished that school you wouldn't need any martial arts lessons any more
But then the high school came. The first days some people were being arrogant and stuff thinking they're cool, if they did something I just cursed at them or kicked them. Soon the management of the school thought of me as a problem, instead of them. If they weren't acting like ret*ds I wouldn't have done anything to them. They told my mom I should go to a psychologist pointed out by them or otherwise it would be kind of hard for them to keep me at school. My self esteem by then was not 1/100th of before highschool so I couldn't even bring up to be aggressive against enemies, so there weren't a lot of problems with the management anymore

Short of shutting yourself down to others, i dont know what to say. Unless i was in a group that shared an interest with me, i had no reason to talk to anyone. As for the bullying, i dont think it was as severe as it could be, but it was enough for me to look down on them/ignore them/come up with some snappy comeback to shut them up. If it was something during class, i was focused entirely on the teacher and board, and shut out everything else. In worst case scenario, the "bully" can actually be brought up on charges of harassment.
