Today, I tried running for a position in the legal assistant society, but everyone voted for the other person running because she fit into their little clique.I got zero votes..that other person got all the votes. They recorded the whole thing and handed it in to the student association. It was nothing more than an NT popularity contest for members of the in crowd.

Earlier this morning, I overheared a few classmates talking about an aspie they knew and they were calling him names and slurs such as creep and ret*d.I at least now know not to disclose my AS to them...They are not a bunch of Neurotypicals...they are Nazitypicals. And they even had the gull to laugh about how many jobs hes been fired from and blacklisted from and they were mocking those with AS. They knew he had AS and what it was and they were knowingly mocking those with it, openly.

That sounds really rough. I'm sorry to hear that, Tory_canuck.

Eventually, we're going to have to do something about all these people who make fun of the disabled. Planet Earth isn't meant to be their torture-fest.

Oh, this takes me back... how you alone argue against all the "top"-guys in the class, no one supports you (though I didn't care), and then the teacher calls for a hidden vote. Guess what the result was? Everyone exept the top guys agreed with me, and still not a single of them had said anything.

Sadly, it's how the world works, the leaders, the followers and us.

I'd say I hope they end up having ASC kids, but that would be too dangerous for the kids.

Oh, I particularly like that turn of phrase. We really are something apart, aren't we. Sometimes one, sometimes the other, but most of the time neither.

Indeed, and a lot of our pain comes out of others trying to force us into their system.

I suppose if there's any good we can take out of this, it's deeper knowledge of your school's system here; popularity contest indeed. Those voted in might run it soundly, or might not, but either way, don't feel it's a shot against your own character.

It's more accurate to say they're too blind to understand your credentials for the position, and I just hope they'll open their eyes once the snake of reality bites them in the rear.

stereotype hatreds are lame :(

I'm so sorry you had to suffer that. I've never run for an office, so I can't relate there, but I've been in situations where I was around people spouting ignorance and hate towards autism.

I dont mind the vote loss as I do the part where they recorded it and sent it to the SA.It wasn;t that official. They could have just said the other person was acclaimed due to no contest. The vote is not sanctioned in any way by the school. It is all student run.Basically it was the classmates in a conferance type room throwing pieces of paper with their vote on it into the middle of the table and they were all chatting as they voted thereby it wasnt very secret.

The whole conversation I overheared had a strong stench of malicious intent.

I am feeling a bit better today...but not because of any changes....I got informed by student funding that I was approved for a 500 dollar acedemic scholarship. :)

Good things come to those who deserve it...eventually.

Congrats on getting the scholarship!

On the bright side, once your classmates graduate and enter the real world, they're going to be competing with the popular kids from every other school in the country; they won't all come out on top!

It sounds like a popularity contest, you were probably the better person for the job.
People who make fun of others like that just need something to talk about, they are small-minded and have nothing better to do.

There are many ways to destroy a man from the inside out. Disprove everything they silently assume in one fell instant, and they will crumble from the inside out. As fun as that can be, however I don't think that vengeance is the solution to your dilemma. I have gotten more than enough flack from relatives (try having a dad that tells you that you will never get a driver's license and will die alone because you have AS). Getting mad i find only makes torment worse, labeling people bigots or nazis tends to create a type of quiet anger that gnaws at your innards and eats away at you from the inside out. In my experience the best solution is it laugh those type of jokes off, and to try (it is hard sometimes) to not get so offended by their remarks. Many kids make jokes about aspies because they know that it is easy to get a reaction out of them. Kids tend to look down on aspies because it makes them feel more normal. Just because they make a game out of something, does not mean that you have to play it.

I didnt say anything to them about either the vote or the conversation.I was just venting here.Venting is my way of coping and letting my frustrations out rather than bottling them up and letting them eat me from the inside.

I can understand venting to let off steam . Sorry for coming across as overly presumptuous in my post, the same thing used to happen to me alot so I thought it might pass on some advice that has served me well.
