I have a lot of trouble, and I mean real trouble, getting to sleep anytime before midnight.
When I wake up in the morning, and look in the mirror, the first things I notice are the dark bags under my eyes and the extraordinarily unhappy expression on my face.
The thing is, I don't have a lot of work or homework to do.
I don't have a job, and the work I do my homework in three hours or less, not counting snack breaks.
I get along well with my family members, too, except for my little brother, but I'm pretty sure they're not the cause of my inexplicable and uncontrollable compulsion to wear my eyes out late at night.
Sometimes I write or do something creative, but mostly I just sit here.
What's gotten into me and how do I deal with it?

Contrary to popular belief, blacki/blue bags under your eyes is bruising, caused by night time pressure, lack of elevation of the head, and most of all, rubbing your eyes in the morning! stop with the eye rubbing, and the black goes mostly away, sooner or later.

I worked for me.

I normally fall asleep without too much trouble. The problem for me is staying asleep. More often then not I will wake up sometime between 2 and 4 am after only sleeping four or five hours. I will wake up and still be tired and wanting to sleep but I can't. It usually takes another four to five hours for the tiredness to build up enough so I can go back to bed and sleep a few more hours. I wouldn't mind so much except it makes employment difficult.

Yupa, buy some fast release Melatonin,as the person is in America,it will be easy getting it.
I used quite a big mg size but can't remember what it was,it's great stuff and doesn't have side effects as with medical sedatives.
Slow release melatonin doesn't have the same impact as fast release but it works for longer.

My dad used to have this problem because he was worried about his brother or something. One day when we were near a pizza store, he just lied down on the sidewalk and it really frightened me, esepcially when I was a little kid that time. I thoguht he was going insane or something.

He just told me to tell the people working in the pizza store to call 911. Don't remember how he was treated, but I think I remembered some pills.

I used to have a bad problem with falling asleep years ago. Back when I lived with my family, I would always love to tell them the things that I was researching or thinking about and they would listen. But whenever I get into teaching mode, I get a big rush that prevents me from falling asleep, even though I was really tired. I don't really have anyone to talk to like that right now, which is sort of sad, but I don't have problems falling asleep! But when I had my insomnia from it, I got hooked on a subtitled Korean soap opera ("drama" as they called it) and once the insomnia subsided, I taped the remaining fifty episodes thereabouts. Man, Korean girls are so cute. The story was really interesting, but I hope never to get hooked on a soap again.

i have that too except i usually stay up for hours just tossing and turning before i know it it's like 2 or 3 am or later.
my family thinks i keep myself awake every night but i don't well not every night most recent nights i haven't been on my compy or anything just lieing in bed staring at the ceiling and progressing with torch 3 in my head.
i bet that the isn't a strong enough sleeping medicine that could put me to sleep besides the ones used in hospitals before surgery.

It takes me about three or four or even five hours to get to sleep every night. My brain won't stop talking, if that makes any sense. One of those things where it's like...you want to stop thinking and just calm down, but you can't. I try reading before bed, usually doesn't help. Ditto for excercise in the afternoon, though I'm far from hardcore about it. I always feel tired, and my eyes always feel like they want to close when the lights are on, but when the lights are off they just want to stay open. But if I just keep the light on, then I still can't sleep easily because the light's so distracting.

I tried melatonin, it didn't work for me either.

well it's 7 am and i'm still not tired it could be the loud music blasting in my ears. but don't normal people actually get tired reguredless of music blasting in ears or not. well i know my dad can fall asleep with the tv on so i think so.
i want to just be sedated every night just avoid the trouble it would be easier then falling asleep on my own that's for sure.
and this problem gets worse as i age soon sedating will be the only way i can sleep at this rate.
maybe i'll not need sleep one day man wouldn't that be wonderful. i wish that would happen.

All too often, 2-3 in the morning comes along without me even realising because i've been pacing around or just lying in bed rolling over constantly, trying to fall asleep. Sometimes i do eventually drop off but other times i see the morning come and go and just start a new day without having slept. It's been getting worse over the last few years though.

If I don't force it my schedule will rapidly drift to the point that's almost inverted, sleeping during the day and awake all night. For some reason I can't understand I am just more productive at night..I even think more clearly. When I do sleep I tend to wake up at least 4 times during the night, sometimes more. Seems to mostly happen between my REM cycles with are 75-90 minutes long.
