Hi Lae,

I can totally understand too. I just went through the same thing with my cat. She was my best friend for 14 years. We had to put her down a few of weeks ago. I wrote a poem about her on my website. I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you are doing okay.

hey lae,

i am so sorry to hear of your loss....
It is good though that you have your other cats that you must take care of, it will help you in the long run, trust me....

I lost my cat about 2 and a half years ago.... I was 16 at the time, and my parents got her like two months before i was born, so i grew up with her, and i never really had friends where i would go and do things with, or even talk to outside of school(talk to meaning almost never)

She was killed when my house caught on fire, practicaly all was destroyed by at least somke, if not fire.... Serriously, she was/is still the only thing that i lost that i care i lost, if she would have been ok, i would have not cared at all that my house just burned!

i hope you will be able to still love your other cats, and not feel bad about your one cat.... I still cant look at a picture of my cat though... i want to get another soon.

LB, I loved your poem to your cat, and I understand how you felt.
Oboe, I'm very sorry about what you went through; And yes, we are trying to give the other cats extra attention and love. They stopped playing when Kooloo left, and have been moping around. My big grey tiger is stretched out here on the desk in front of me and I'm stroking him as I type.

i have an update on my kirby.
well he has the tube out of his throat now [he had a feeding tube at one point] and now he is walking around more going up and down steps, jumping on furniture and walking around.
his one paw is bent because it might have had some small fractures and fused that way but we know it doesn't hurt him at all.
also he is purring an awful lot.
he is eating a little but he has a hard time closing his mouth and most of the time he leaves it open, we think the wire in his jaw might be keeping his mouth open so in 13 days he gets that out and i'm hoping he'll eat.

i know what's like to lose a cat and not be able to look at their picture, because i still can't look at tim [one of my deceased cats] for long before i start getting choked up. and he was my buddy too i used to take him in my room with me when i did my homework and he would sit on me and keep me company the whole time. he died very young too he was bearly 2 i think when he died.

i also had 4 other cats
spooky
fluffy
girly <--- so orginal huh <_<
mow <-- i'm not sure if the spelling is correct. she was the mom.
and of course tim

kirby was the only survivor of mow's litter which were the first 3 and kirby. and to make things better mow died too.

i knew that fluffy was dead cause you never get the image of your cat's fur shredded on the ground out of your mind.

tim was attacked then buried alive.

spooky was also attacked he tried his best to defend his family but died.

girly mom says she was attacked but i think she ran away first.

mow took off when girly left and was most likely killed off.

i hate mountain lions and bobcats to this day cause that's what killed all my cats. i'm sure some can understand.

My cat has been very sick and is at the vet. They don't think he is going to make it. I know that doesn't sound like a big problem to a lot of people, but my four cats are my best friends and this one is the most special. I didn't even realize what a comfort he's been to me. And he is such a nice cat that even my daughter who hates cats with a passion is fond of him. Is it stupid for a cat to be such an important part of a person's life?

My cats have always been more important to me than most people, including my relatives. I don't think that's stupid at all.

I'm glad that he has a person who cares for him and has given him a good life. I'm sure you have lots of good memories.

Jetfox, I'm so glad Kirby is getting better. He must be a strong little guy, and I hope he continues to recover.
Anna, thank you. Cats do make wonderful companions, don't they? They don't seem as baffling to figure out as people do, either.
PepsiprincessBC: Yes, cats seem magical to me, too. I'm still learning how to use this computer, and have mixed results when I try to email. But I think someone started a thread for posting stories about and pictures of our pets. I've been meaning to look for it again, maybe in the meantime you would like to post a picture of your cat there. I'm hoping to figure out how to do that with my 3 remaining cats as well.

Raph522, I was worried that what Kooloo had might be contagious, but the vet has ruled it out from all the blood tests they did. She thinks it was a type of bone marrow cancer. Luckily, he didn't have feline leukemia, or something else the others could catch. It makes me wonder if he was exposed to some carcinogen as a kitten, before he found us. I'm still constantly checking on the other 3 to make sure they are ok, though :D . I'm watching them like a hawk.

just_me, thank you. It's nice to find that so many people like cats. And each cat is unique and precious. I can see why the Egyptians worshipped them.

it is good you are watching them. I try to keep an eye on my pets (not literally) after one gets sick. Just in case....

I had a sweet black american shorthair that followed me around like a dog. She would run room to room to look out which ever window offered her the best view of me when I was in the yard.
When she got sick I spend well an embaressing amount of money on her care for the five days she was at the Vets. I would leave work and go straight to the vets to visit her. When the Vet called me to tell me that she had died I broke down and cried not just a couple of tears but so hard I got sick. I had to call work and tell them I would be late.
The sad thing is I greived more for that cat than I did when my father died.
I think that it was then that I realized that I was not just different from other but seriously different. I now have two super cats that I love and enjoy but I still miss my first cat.

Just look at my user name. Yes it's a bad pun really, but I do love felines. I have two and they are my family. They are always happy to see me and my favorite thing in the whole world is hearing them purr. I get such comfort from that.

I was very distraught when my first cat passed away - she was my best friend - and will miss my current ones when that happens. The comfort I have is being able to adopt more and make a better life for them.
