ok, somthing is really making me sad. everyone even on this sight are calling out catholics as bad. i am catholic, and i just cant stand it anymore. if you want to take shots at me or my religion, fine. just make the facts you use valid. first of is the assumption that all catholic priests are pedophiles. they are not all pedophiles. some are, but then again i think every orginisation or group of people does. another thing is people saying that the church JUST accepted the fact that the earth isent a the center of the universe, and everything revolves around it, we have known that for a while. when we made Vatican Council Two, the first thing we did was issue a list of appoligys or confessions, and changed all out paper work that has been colecting dust since the dark ages to keep people happy. another things is that catholic schools teach magic not science. and this is ignorant. because guess what im learning in class right now?(yes, catholic school. bishop hendricken high school, top alla mater in the state.) EVOULUTION! WOW and you guys say they dont teach science lol. im just mad at all the ignorince in the world. people should open a book before saying stuff for a change.

I can understand why you would be upset about it. However your spelling is worse than my sentence structure.

Folks, this is the Haven. I've already cleaned this thread up once; if you can't be positive, then don't comment.

Catholics are some of the greatest people in the world with much faith. The wicked ones will always seek out the meek to exploit whether is by sneaking into the priesthood or getting a job as a school teacher. It's not the infiltrated group that is bad its those that came in with lies and intent to have access to children. Destroy the infiltrators not the church. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater as they say.

Further, God never says that he did not use evolution to perfect us. When we see the times he does interfere it's always by some natural means. God creates, teaches, comforts and destroys all by natural laws the he himself set in motion.

Well Chaddhuddon,

I have looked at the threads where you have been posting; I guess that you are unhappy about a thread about a pair of gay women who have tried to send their child along to a RC school in the US. I would advise you not to take it personally.

Within the RC church, there are many good people and many bad people; if you look at many large organisations then you will find a mixture of good and bad people. As Eileen Barker wrote in "New Religious Movements" that a New Religious Movement tends to contain an above average concentration of "sinners" and "saints". She was suggesting that a New Religious Movement contains an above average number of very bad and very good people. perhaps rather than a normal distribution of people, I think it is a bimodal distribution of people along a morality axis.

I know that within the RC church that some very good people exist, I knew one RC priest who was a super good man. I guess if he were alive many of the non-RC people here would be more than happy to have him as the WP chaplain if we were to go off en mass to an island. (If they were to meet the man and she what sorts of things he was doing each day) I can also think of a nun who I know who is a super nice and decent person. However, within the church, there are some people who are mean and nasty; I am not going to bore you with the details of their deeds.

The problem is that 100 good men who go about doing the right thing and maybe even going out of their way to do a good deed are not newsworthy; the newspaper will give more attention to one bad man than a vast host of good people. So news reporting is often mostly bad news, good news does not sell newspapers. The story that "We are happy, healthy, employed and safe" does not attract the reader as much as "air crashes", "illness", "unemployment" and "unhappiness". I am sorry to say that even many aspies will concentrate on the bad news.

Just bear in mind that in any race, creed, political party, profession, town..... etc etc you will find both good and bad people. Please do not fall into the trap of thinking that just because some people here are angry with the RC church, or say things you do not like about it, that the whole of the WP is populated with people who hate Catholics. The thing about the WP is that we have a very wide cross section of society, we do have some other Roman Catholics, we do have some agnostics and we do have atheists. The thing is “who am I to judge”, it is wrong for me to “play god” and try to make religious or spiritual choices for the rest of the wrong planet population. It is important for you, for me, the mods and the rest of the WP population to remember that one of the most serious crimes on the wrong planet is “stirring up trouble with other members” I have highlighted in bold some sections of the rules which I hope you and everyone else here has read.

Conduct
-----------
The following activities are unacceptable on WrongPlanet:

1. Posting offensive language, comments, video, or images.
Unacceptable content includes swearing; racist, sexist, homophobic language; behavior intended to provoke or belittle other members; violent or sexually demeaning content; sexual fetish; and discussion of excretory function. Posting graphic images or videos of people or animals being harmed is prohibited.

2. Personal attacks.
This includes insinuation, ridicule and personal insults, regardless of whether direct or indirect. Attacking an opinion, belief or philosophy is acceptable, but attacking the person making the comments is not.

3. Other inappropriate content and behavior prohibited on Wrong Planet:
This includes copyrighted material, serial codes, and posts made to promote a website, group or product, particularly if made repeatedly and without other participation in the WP community (spamming). This also includes discussion of locked topics, discussion of banned members and why they were banned and anything else that purposely causes conflict with other members.

I do agree. While I disagree with some of the teachings of the Catholic faith, I believe that most Catholics are good, decent people. One only has to look at the various hospitals and charities that is run by the Catholic church to understand this. Yes, there are plenty of fine people withing the Roman Catholic Church, and this includes the priesthood as well. However, in any large organization where people make decisions and run things, there is going to be some corruption. This is the nature of people.

The current Primate of all Ireland, Cardinal Sean Brady, was implicated in the cover up of substantiated allegations of child sexual abuse. He actively participated in and facilitated this process and has since admitted his complicity in the matter. The abuser in this instance, a member of the clergy, received a large payout from the church, and subsequently went on to abuse other children in a different diocese, both here in Ireland and outside the state.

Cardinal Brady has refused to resign his position and it appears that Catholics in Ireland have accepted his refusal to do so, this being when one considers that he has successfully managed to retain his position and has done so by publicly citing the fact that a large number of Catholics in Ireland DO support him in his decision to remain as Primate.

I don't know about you, but I find it rather difficult to place much faith in the collective morality of a congregation that continues to permit an individual of this caliber to lead their church. I was a Catholic, however the shame I feel at being recognized as such, has led me to renounce my faith in the Church as an institution. I no longer practice my faith as a Catholic because I no longer want to be associated with an organization and/or body of people who COLLECTIVELY support individuals who have consciously and willingly participated in covering up the sexual abuse of children.

I see the laity and the clergy very differently, myself. I think that many of the laity and clergy are good people, but the trouble is that you have a system where there is no accountability and it is constructed to refuse attempts at accountability. When something goes wrong, not only is there no incentive to purge it, but the system itself is made to resist such attempts. And that I find problematic.

When it comes to my everyday life, though, I have found many Catholics easier to discuss things with than many Protestants.

Lovely expression which illustrates your clear understanding of the underlying cause of a predicament. I really do get a good buzz when I encounter comments like yours. Such an expression, once absorbed, compels the likes of me to re-visit the way I think and subsequently express those thoughts.

Thanks...I spend a lot of time on religious matters, so I've just had a lot of time to think about it. Plus, as I mentioned...my good experience with individual Catholics compelled me to look elsewhere for the source of the problem.
