They say that people who say they are going to do it, never do. Or just make some half baked attempt. I just wanted to go on record, in the once place that actually made me feel welcome, and ....normal? lol..... that the people who say that stuff are wrong. Not everyone who says they are gonna do it is begging for attention. Some of them are begging for help. And some of them actually will go off and do it.

Please think of this next time someone says it to you. No jokes or criticisms please.

God Bless x

It is kind of split. While the intent and feelings might be there, the cry for help factor does open the window towards not actually doing it. Of course some do end up acting upon their feelings, but coming out openly about suicidal thoughts means you want a reason to live rather than announcing you're gonna do it.

In the end, if a person wants to kill themselves, then they should be free to do so. There's already enough legal and other regulations against us as a people without having said people interfere in personal matters as well.

You always have to question why someone posts what they post. I usually end up with two motives in mind for the the suicide postings I see online.

The first being that the poster is young and very upset about something that probably happened in their lives very recently. If I was being really critical I might even see some of these posts as a kind of macrbre joke. Now since I don't know the poster I am not going to respond to these posts because I also know the young are impulsive and if it is a joke or a game to them than I have no interest in that kind of thread.

The second group of postings I have seen usually give some sort of reason or feeling behind why they are thinking this way. It is not just a plan so much as it is the person trying to talk themselves out of their own feelings.

I think of chronic suicidal thoughts as a symptom. If you don't want to live chances are quite high you have a medical condition either physical or mental in nature. Just because you don't act on the symptom doesn't make it any less real in you life.

I think the legend of only those who don't talk about it or the ones that actually do it came about as a way to explain the "happiness" that so many ill individuals experience before they take their own death. The concept of death is very stressful even to those who never take their own life. Also once a person faced with a stressful situation (should I or should I not do this) finally makes up their mind they feel a sense of relief. They probably also wouldn't feel the need to talk about it since they don't want to be talked out of it or maybe they don't want others to know that it was a suicide and not an accidental death. Menal illness is still seen as taboo and unfortunately the judgements and superstitions of others does nothing to help the afflicted.

Hey, I also wanted to be sent where people would understand me... depressed people for me were often the most empathetic, nice, best friend material. I would be their best friend too, of course. :)

If i was going to commit suicide i would do something significant first like kill all the bullies at school, i mean why would i throw away my life without making those who make me suffer pay

I've tried to kill myself several times.
I told people and they said you won't do that, everyone says that.
I was in hospital the next day... So ye
