Why are lots of neurotypicals so cruel and narrow minded

I hate getting unfairly judged and treated with inequality and rudeness..............it's not fair!

That's why i feel strange going to shop or walk alone, because in this small town there are a lot of school teens who look at me with weird faces. And some who recognize me from time when i went to school here 3 years ago also watch me with weird faces and talk behind my back or yell something. All of it because i was different from others when i was at school here 3 years ago. I never did any harm to those people. I wish they were friendly people who didn't laugh or watch and talk behind my back. Some guys watch me with especially angry faces. Some guys even broke my bicycle tire. I have weak social skills in real life, i don't look confident and i don't know how to defend myself if i should need. That's why i go out with my sister, or mother. Sometimes when i feel brave i go out myself too if i need.

They aren't.

A lot of people are. The reason for some NT's judging and berating us is the same reason why any other minority gets judged and berated by a majority: lack of understanding and education, overgeneralization, wrong ideas, etc. There are still idiots out there who think autism is mental retardation. There are still idiots out there who think that ppl with AS just don't "want" to do any better. Some people may have met a person who had AS who treated them badly and overgeneralized that ppl with AS are just as*holes, just as someone who was treated badly by a person of a racial minority (and isn't too smart) might conclude that all members of that racial minority are just as*holes. Combinations of ignorance and stupidity, as well as unwillingness to become educated, abound.

What can we do? Wellllll....I try to educate ppl who are willing to be educated. Those who aren't, well, there's not much you can do. Horse. water. drink.

People who make threads like this really do not see the irony in what they are saying.

All these traits are not unique to non-autistic people nor excludable from all people with a diagnose in the autistic spectrum, but tell us you story where you think you are treated like this.

My 2 favourite people are NT. Not cruel or narrow-minded. At all.

I would have to agree that most NT's are judgmental.

I can say that I, myself, am. But 99% of the time I'm right.

When I try and defend myself I get more hurt and the person who is hurting me denies that they ever hurt me or they get so mad. I don't harm no one either.

It's a 2-way street. Ignorant NTs and the aspie pride bandwagon.

That is so true. Some NT's are close minded, I admit that. But many aren't, I've not met any thus far who have judged me for having AS. They judge me for being bisexual but that's a different story altogether.

NT's are narrowminded and cruel because they are sadistic people.
They LIKE to be cruel! That is my experiences since my early childhood!

There's one huge problem with this thread, we're basing a whole group on the actions of a few individuals. I know how much it drives me mad when a woman has one bad break up and ends up judging all guys, this is no different. Some NT's are cruel yes but not all, if we allow ourselves to judge NT's based on what they are rather than who they are then we're not better than racists and homophobes. All of you, don't allow yourself to just decide before you meet some they're sadistic or cruel or evil because some of the best people I've ever met are neurotypical. They say don't judge a book by it's cover, this is worse. It's not judging by the cover, it's judging one word of the blurb.

Sure, the OP was generalizing, but there is some truth in what s/he said (sorry, OP, didn't check if you were male or female). Many (not necessarily most, definitely not all) NT's are judgemental and cruel toward us. Note that s/he didn't SAY ALL, or even MOST (s/he said LOTS OF). And s/he asked why.

I believe it's a matter of fearing what is different from the self, and not understanding. Y'all are free to disagree with me if you like, but this *is* the haven, after all, and I think ideas would be welcome. I think we'd get less static if more NT's understood that we're not "trying" to be difficult or that it's not that we "don't care". I am in the process of trying to talk to my NT husband who was initially very resistant to understanding this. He's starting to come around. I think it's possible that other NTs can too, if they listen and if we educate.
