I just signed a lease on an apartment above the garage of an elderly woman, who should be, God willing, the quietest neighbor I've had in my life. So, only a few more weeks of the current situation and then I'll be out in early February! Not sure if anyone still cares about this anymore, but I'm so excited and relieved, I just feel like telling everyone I can.

Just a thought I wanted to add- even though your problem seems to already be resolved.
I have a friend who is a musician who turned part of his rental house into a sound studio. The landlord actually let him deduct a portion off the rent for this home improvement.
The room, i.e. "sound-studio" is essentially a soundproof room. You can't hear ANYTHING from the outside coming in, or the inside going out. (IT REALLY WORKS!) This makes the place MUCH more rentable in the future, something the landlord was only too happy to accomodate - so it might be an idea worth suggesting if you plan on staying at any rental for a length of time?

That's great to hear the problem is getting resolved. I hope everything goes smoothly and this new place ends up being the best apartment you've rented.
