Ahh.. I [don't] remember doing that. Blackouts and waking up in puddles of biological fluid... fun times.

Drrinking if you're on anti-depressants or are already depressed is never a good idea. So stop. It'll only make you feel worse.

Generally alcohol accentuates the state in which you're feeling so if you're angry sober you'll become more so after a drink.

I don't know, I drank a lot during a part of my many years of depression and it made me pretty cheerful. Incredibly cheerful, you might even say. But that's not what I came here to say.

I'm sorry you were sad, Moog. :( I suppose drinking does not suit you.

The first time I read your OP, I thought the post was about someone in your life drinking and his or her drinking depresses you, then read through the replies and found different.
It's REAL easy for someone to say, don't do it., especially Legolas-types. But, apparently, most of your replies are from people who understand the posting rules - or at least read them and honor them. It depresses you, and that depression isn't just pyschological, alcohol has physical effects that compound depression. Only other drinkers or former drinkers are going to truly understand why you still drink when it depresses you. That's why AA meetings are so amazing. Other people around you may have a hard time with whatever behavior you show when you drink. Try not to get out of control, and try to stop drinking, but don't kickbox yourself if you jog off the path. If you're beating yourself up all the time, you may run into problems where you don't feel like you have ANYONE to go to. But you DO have you to go to. :wtg: I'm going through this right now with a friend, and it upsets me greatly to pop over to his house and find him drinking, I mean swilling directly from a fifth of cheap whiskey. I can only applaud him for buying the CHEAP whiskey. His counselor is doing him better than I am right now. It just pains me a lot to think he's poisoning himself and may go out driving and land himself in jail or worse. :wall:
I can't seem to find the hug emoticons, if I could I give ya a bunch of 'em! So,       but without any feely-ups.
It sounds silly and cliche, but it's true: you WILL get through this, you are alright, and you will be alright!
A forum like The Haven can be helpful, when people follow the rules. You handled it with more dignity than I could have. 8)
Edit this post to add, check out "You Kill Me," a movie with Ben...whatshisname in it and who is it, Tea Leoni? It's about a professional contract killer who's having problems doing his job right because of the drinking. It's kind of a black comedy. Obviously you're not a professional contract killer, but you might identify with the character.

Oh gee, mightypen515, I don't really have a problem, except that when I do drink I drink way too much. I'm sorry your pal is in a state though, that sucks.

I made a slightly glib post and got a few flip remarks. Still, it is the haven.

Im glad Im not the only one who thinks so. I drooled all the way through that movie, and wondered if it meant I had some sort of Spock fetish.

Hope you are feeling better. I also have problems with alcohol, I end up getting really drunk very rapidly and then very sick the next day, and I can be really loud when drunk too.

Years ago I used to be a "professional" partier...virtually everything I did revolved around beer. But I discovered that I drank because I wanted to socialize with others, and I didn't have the ability and/or inclination to do so unless I had a buzz going, which allowed me to relax and lose the inhibitions I had regarding interaction with my peers. After a few beers, I suddenly became witty, good-looking and desireable. (At least that's what I kept telling myself!)

However, after getting into trouble a few times, I finally decided it was time to grow up and to quit using alcohol as a social crutch. Haven't had a drink now in 15 years. I do miss the semi-effortless camaraderie I had then, but it just wasn't worth it anymore.

Drinking depresses me too. But I still feel the need to do it quite a lot, mostly for social reasons.

Drinking depresses me. I do it alone to try and escape the world and my problems. Now after a weeks worth i feel pretty disturbed.
