So I only ever come onto this forum when I'm feeling a little blue. I'm sure many of you know the drill: late at night, you're lonely and illuminated only by the barely-comforting glow of a computer screen.

Right now s**t's not looking too good for me. I'm at university doing a four-year degree that won't get me a job in the end (Bachelor of Arts), all to keep my mother happy. I got into AIM, a music school in Sydney (and quite a good one), but she wasn't too pleased about that. I can't seem to find a job right now - I had work at a cafe, but my name's not been on the roster for four weeks and the boss won't return my calls or texts. Of course there's woman trouble; I've got feelings for this girl, thought she had feelings for me, I was wrong, now I suspect that one of my friends is dating her, blah blah blah. I'm in a band, but I'm not passionate about it. Ironically enough, the only thing that really keeps me going is doing stand-up comedy. And then there's the usual insecurity about actually dealing with human beings on a regular basis and trying to figure out whether they genuinely want to be around me or are merely being polite.

So where do I go from here? I don't often feel this bad about myself, but when I do, I slip into a really dark place. And I can't go back to depression, because depression sucks giant hairy moose balls.

Take a break or take it more slow, you seem to overloaded by events.

You said you did the degree because of your mother, but what do you want for yourself? Same for the music school, why is your mother's will so important?

If you can't leave, focus on your joy in standup-comedy and look for more things that keep you going.

Talk to your boss in person so you can get rostered-in and look for another job just in case.

Talk to your friend about the girl and close the book on your experience in being blown off.
Relax, there are more girls.

Wether they like you or not proves itself when they are there for you even when things get tough.

When you feel blue, go do some physical exercise - it's a cure-all for bad moods.

Cheers for the advice, will put it into practice tomorrow.

The thing with my mother is more or less that I've learned through years of experience that it's not worth the effort to upset her. I still live at home, you see, and how much I enjoy my life is directly linked to how little I get yelled at/passive-aggressively attacked.

Thanks for paying attention to this.

Ok, I see. Better have the talks with your mom about that after you have a place of your own.

Good luck!
