I'm lost and don't know what to do....

My mother is in jail for selling oxycontin. Her bail is $100,000. She was selling her pills because we have no money and was desperate. She ended up being set up. Right now I just don't know what to do... I don't know when her hearing will be. It could be months or even next year! So without bail she will have to stay in jail until the hearing and then only god knows how many years they will give her. I read it can be 20+ years. Even if she is a first time offender. She is being charged for 4 felonies based on the amount of pills she had. She had 20 pills of different strengths.

I'm adopted by my grandparents. So my mother is my grandmother and is 58 years old. She is disabled. She is a very sick woman and takes 23 different pills a day. She is going into renal failure. She will not get any of her medication until sometime after Tuesday. She didn't get to take her night time meds last night. She didn't get her morning meds this morning and will not get any tonight. They said they would fax the medical center we go to for her prescriptions. But the medical center is closed tomorrow!

What do I do!? I only get $600 a month from my own disability!

Let me begin to say that my heart goes out to you. This economy is making people do more and more desperate things to survive, and it's only going to get worse.

I assume your mother has been assigned a public defender. As a first-time offender, and given your family situation, he/she should be able to get that bail reduced.

As for your grandmother, if she's without medicine she needs to survive, take her to the emergency room, if you need to. That's why they're there. They usually also have onsite pharmacies that can give her an emergency supply of her meds. Without them, her life is in danger.

WS, can't imagine how stressful that must be. I hope things work out as best they can. Maybe a social worker could help you figure out what to do and find resources that could help?

Well I can't get any information or even see her until Thursday. My stupid older sister made an appointment to visit her tomorrow and prisoners are only allowed to have one visitation per visitation day! If my sister were willing to help it would be different. But she only want to go argue. Me and my dad are the ones that need to talk to her and get information on what exactly is going on. No one has told us anything. The cops never even called to tell us they arrested my mother and that they took my fathers car. The car is in his name. He wouldn't of even known they took it if mom hadn't of told him.

He didn't know she was going to sell her pills. We were left in the dark so we have no idea what is going on. But are family is being ripped apart. We just don't have the money for this sort of thing. Even if we sold everything we have we still wouldn't have the money. But hopefully on Thursday we will be in a better position to know what direction we need to go in.
