As you have so many replies its almost all been said. I am self-diagnosed at 47 and I have to say I feel the same way you seem to feel. It's like there was someone short-changed, and it was us; however, I think we will feel differently as we work to improve our skills and knowledge about AS and know that we can get along better in the world, and be more fulfilled, and get much of what we want in life. There is always suffering in this world, and know that others are suffering from worse things. Good luck to you.

I would appreciate an appology from all the people that asked "whats wrong with you" right to my face though.

"Whats wrong with me? Well, yeah, I've got an allergy to jackasses. You didn't know though, it's not your fault."

That's always a good comeback for that one.

I was wife-diagnosed at 46 and formally diagnosed at 47. I spent years taking medications that didn't work and trying to follow advice that made no sense to me.
At last I know that I am not crazy, only different. I wouldn't have it any other way. I finally know who I am.

Self-diagnosed at 52. Yeah, have to wonder what my life could have been with this understanding at 26...

Me too. Those who know me don't deny I'm an Asperger individual. What they do instead is say that I use Aspergers as an excuse. They neglect to say an excuse for what. I know what they're referring to. It's that ever since I learned about Aspergers, I discovered how NTs and Aspies think differently. I also discovered how I've been manipulated by these people. That information set me free from being their doormat and puppet on strings. That's what really pisses them of.

The problem when you're a matured adult is that people won't give you a chance to show to them that you're actually a nice person. I'm always shunned immediately and permanently.
