I was at work less that an hour today before i was getting chewed out. I cleaned at the wrong time, I mixed up the registration cards(dislexia at its finest) I sold the wrong room even though noone listed it as out of service oh and aperently i cannot assing rooms until 11. all i know is if i was not properly quallified for this position why was i placed in it. I did not sign up for this and honestly would love to work in any position other than this. I am not a people person, I do mix up my numbers and letters and I HAVE NO DESIRE TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT TIME I AM SUPPOSED TO CLEAN THE STUPID DESK. :x

Sorry to hear about that. Yeah, as much as I'd like a job and to be able to spend money again, having worries like these in the back of my head sometimes make me hope I don't find one(or at least not the "wrong" one). Having recently volunteered for a few weeks at a soup kitchen only confirmed how I'd regressed into being awkward and clumsy and overly nervous about everything after having been unemployed for two years.

Maybe you'll get better at it. Who knows? Just do the best that you can and if they don't like it, they can either fire you or they can shove it.

I've had many jobs in the past that just didn't work out... Ideally, I just wanted to adhere to my work related obligations and be left the .... alone. However, it never quite worked that way. I didn't take them all that seriously anyway... I can get an idea of how you are feeling at the moment about this particular job. Hopefully in time you will be able to find a job which is more compatible for your overall situation and matches your personality and mindset. At this time, I am working on finding a career which is best suited to my personality and mindset. Thankfully, I am also working toward a job in the meantime until I finally figure out my career. So for the time being it will have to suffice. It will take time and I acknowledge that. Sometimes as people we must reinvent patience. Over and over. I hope it all works out for you eventually.

I can understand how the world of work can be hard on someone with AS. I am just lucky that I happened to find a career that perfectly fits my interests and personality.

It is pretty obvious that you need a new job. What you should do I sit down and make a list of what you like, what you're good at and what skills you feel you have, then look into jobs that you think would fit that skillset.

All I will say is that this will pass. Eventually you'll acclimate to the job and it's requirements and do just fine. I am always awkward when I start a new job but usually wind up being one of the best employees so long as I have a manager that meshes well with my quirks (not a intense, angry sort of person but someone who makes requests calmly.) All you have to do is figure out a system for what you need to do and implement it. At my job I have done just that and many of my adaptations have become the default way to do certain things since my way works quite well. Just give it time. You can also see it this way: If you want to quit, just work there until you get a new job or they fire you. The extra time spent working will put more money in your pocket, money you otherwise would not have had. In the end, whether you get fired or quit, the result is the same: You have no job and you don't matter to the company. Why not milk as much money out of them as you can in the mean time?

I have been in almost exactly your shoes. But I didn't make it as a desk clerk very long. Having to clean up the dead cat was the last straw for me. Nobody else would do it and I got sick of listening to the guests b#*%#about it.
