I took a bit of a break to watch the Olympics hoping to feel welcome when I came back on here full time. I didn't get that feeling of welcome that I was expecting. I really want to know if you guys want me to stay or go, because some people post things about a special interest of another member to try and get rid of them. If you really don't want me posting here anymore, why don't you just tell me? Am I just a stain on your "Be More NT Programme"? I leave for a bit of a nice break and I come back to this:

Stay! I love the Olympics and watched as much as I could - I even attended one event and it was brilliant. Looking forward to the Paralympics too.

I just read the whole post, word for word. I didn't see anyone getting attacked. I saw lots of folks say watching the Olympics is like watching grass grow, but that's not a personal attack on anyone on WP. That's just their opinion about sports.

Hey Cockney Rebel, I've felt particularly bad lately as well..but please don't leave the site. I really like reading your posts and think you're a very caring individual, well you always struck me that way. I think you're very interesting and I like The Kinks too.


I agree that someone who is sensitive here shouldn't be attacked, especially because of their special interests. I've experienced a few attacks myself, though I'd say 96% of people on this forum are kind to me, you included!

I think you should stay, it would be a blow to the community to lose you in my opinion and I mean that.

From time to time I feel badly here too, but for the most part I love it. I can't say I've felt welcomed, but it's a big forum with lots of members and difficult even to recognize other posters. There have been times I've taken breaks, but usually it's because I get too hooked on the forum and spend too little time on other things I need to do.

I recognize your user name, and have enjoyed many of your posts. So count me as one who doesn't want you to leave, even though we don't know each other well. I'll bet there are many others who won't happen to see this thread, who would say the same.

Olympics is a matter of taste. If I still had television I would certainly have watched as much of my few favorite events as I could. Everyone has different likes and dislikes. Not liking what someone likes doesn't mean one can't like the person. I don't know what gave you this feeling of rejection but I say ignore it, and enjoy what you like, as well as WP. But not having TV, I tried to ignore a lot of the Olympics news just because it made me feel, "Oh, I wish I still had TV." That was unproductive, so I just ignored the Olympics this year.

I didn't see any attacks. But if you wish to stay, everyone would love to have you. Who doesn't like CockneyRebel?

Cockney Rebel, you're one of the more interesting people at this site. I've always liked the Kinks and you're always bringing them up. I like that. It compels me to play a few of their songs.

I certainly hope you don't leave, but I understand the feeling. I often feel unwanted at this site (and everywhere else) but I think a lot of that is just me and if it's others, well, then they have a problem, eh? When you suck so much at reading social cues you have to ask people to be frank, but no one wants to do that - it might cause conflict, eh? The Truth is greatly to be feared... After so many missteps, you might get a little paranoid about it but you can only do that so long because being paranoid is exhausting. So, don't worry about it.

Well, people have a right to their opinions. No one should have to walk on eggshells about what they think of TV shows or music groups or songs or the Olympics or what they think of countries or towns, etc. fearing they may offend someone because it might be their special interest.

I have seen Titanic movie (1997) haters and I don't let them bother me. They are entitled to their opinion. I have seen someone on here trash talk the movie 101 Dalmatians because the film went out or whatever due do some error in the reel room so she has hated the movie since. I didn't let that bother me either. I have also seen someone say on here how horrible Spokane is and it's a terrible place to live. Plus there is a Bob River song that insults the city and I don't let it bother me.

I am not sure what you mean by attacks. I have not seen any negative opinions here about the Kinks. But I did see a thread about disliking the Olympics. If that is what it's about, it's their personal opinion. How PC can this place get? Pretty soon no one would be able to say anymore what they don't like or what they dislike and not be able to express a negative opinion on something because it may be someone's special interest and may offend them.

As for leaving WP, it be sad if you left for that reason. You are one the original members here along with Tim Tex. I think you two are the only ones here from when this place first opened. The rest had left and no longer come here.

I can see how you might construe it as being an attack, but after reading all the posts I don't believe it was. Really it seemed to be just turn-around is fair play. That is that just as you can post and make threads supporting some interest others can do the same expressing disinterest or even animosity. The thing is the subject was The Olympics which is a worldwide event (with physical and political overtones possible) and many people will have very different views, and sometimes pointed views, and it was not about or directed towards you. I think also that much of it was meant humourously or tongue-in-cheek, and not very seriously. Certainly, there was no direct or indirect expression that you should leave.

With so many members, there's bound to be some ruffled feathers or worse once in a while, but please don't go. I have seen you welcome so many new people. You help make WrongPlanet a nicer place by being here.
