After you get a sensory overload or have a melt down or close to a melt down, what do you do? Do you retreat to your own word or safe haven, shutdown?

In the bathroom with the lights out, the window is half open, all while the ceiling fan that makes gentle noises is on.

Good to know I'm not the only bathroom dweller. I've done it since I was a kid. Socially acceptable, totally private haven.

I noticed this is a common place for people who are on the spectrum. I've seen many mini docs on people like us who will not leave the bathroom. They literally need to have someone slip them their food underneathe the door or they will slightly open a crack in the door to take it.

I escape into my own ideas. Meaning I eacape into my concepts for comics and video games, refining every corner, flaw, and story as I go along. Is that wierd?

Mine was the bathroom at my old house, as it was INSIDE the house and had no windows in it. It was cold, dark and quiet.
These days i do what i used to do as a kid, and zone out and retreat internally. Its not as safe, but its got better music and prettier pictures :)

Nope; I do that with music composition/art ideas while trying to block out the noise with headphones.

I'm more like a balcony person, but only when its cold, so no one will go outside since its freezing+I can barely feel it which makes it even more advantageous for me. Are anyone else like that (hyposensitive to cold weather and balcony person)

My safe haven is cyberspace -- at least my mother can't ask me questions here...

It used to be my house, but then my grandmother and uncle started living here. It was supposed to be temporary, but it has been two years already. There is never a single moment of silence on the house while they are here (and they watch some really terrible shows on their loud TV).

Fortunately, they are going to move out next week, but it is never wise to trust in that old lying hag (I really dislike her). I will only be sure when (and if) she moves out.

When I daydream, I have an awesome story about myself as some super being similar to a Saiyan in Dragon Ball Z...I've even categorised each series in my head and who is in it or not...and even made an acting counterpart to them (so I make sure that it's not real).

Kind of sad of me really...but I do it to not feel alone and feel important. Not that I don't feel un-important by my parents...but I can't trust people outside of my family that I make this daydream up.

That isn't sad...we all find ways of cope. I play god in my daydreams and imagine the coolest creations. Hardly makes me narcissistic. Just means you have a want for more power to keep things from holding you down and for me to have less chaos.

Depends where I am at the time, and what options are available. At home, the bathroom can work for short periods of time, but its mostly my room. If I'm at school, it's usually the forest located on one side of the campus. If I'm out somewhere with a vehicle, simply being alone in the vehicle works.

Really, for me, it's simply anywhere I can go that allows me to calm myself, get away from the people and the noise, collect all my thoughts, and think clearly and logically.

I live alone, so that's always a "safe" haven (however, I'm FAR from happy about that). On the bright side, I record my dreams every day, and feel "safe" while doing that.
