I held fast to insights. I depended on them. I saw a nice one tonight on tumblr.com....

“The free soul is rare, but you know it when you see it — basically because you feel good, very good, when you are near or with them.” ~Charles Bukowski~

Or, "The devil sets the price." ~Robertson Davies~

This one by Nietzsche got me through some awkward moments: "A joke is an epitaph on the death of a feeling."

Do you have any that help you get through?

Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first. ~Mark Twain

Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are good is like expecting the bull not to charge because you are a vegetarian. ~Dennis Wholey

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you an automobile ― Billy Sunday

Don't get your knickers in a knot. Nothing is solved and it just makes you walk funny. ~Kathryn Carpenter

"γνῶθι σ<ε>αυτόν" 'Know thyself.'

This was an Ancient Greek aphorism inscribed somewhere in the entrance area of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi according to Pausanias (Plato also mentions it).

Two from Andre Gide:

"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for something you are not."
"Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it."

This one is about "theory of mind."

A Zen Koan
Two monks were standing on a little bridge in a Zen garden, watching the Koi fish swimming below. The first monk bursts out, "Look how happy the fish are swimming there!" The second monk pauses for a second and then replies, "You don't know if the fish are happy or not!" The first monk says back... without looking up, "You don't know, if I know, if the fish are happy or not."

the PPR quotes thread includes political quotes, and the spiritual one has more of a religious bent. this thread is sufficiently different as it is more for insight and support.

i moved this one where people can use the phrases for coping because the OP said...

"The trick is to remain in a constant state of departure, while always arriving"
"When you realize that you are a character in another person's dream... that, is self awareness"
"What you think, you become"
"I possess no special talents, I am only infinitely curious"

When God gives you lemons, find a new God. if at first you don't succeed, say to hell with it and go back to bed, maybe tomorrow will be better.
