Nothing, but that's because I'm genuinely not interested. I don't get why people care so much for these shallow things that don't guarantee you luck or stuff like that. I've made it far enough if I can earn my own money and live in a decent way, without too much stress about the money.

People often feel frustrated for being a loser, which I don't understand either as I don't judge people in such ways, but that's mostly because of the opinion of family members, peers and so on. They themselves don't necessarily want to be succesful, it's just that other people are forcing it down their throat and because it's common and therefore accepted in society they don't see it as a problem on the part of the others.

"Making it" for me ultimately means being happy. Of course, the first step to "making it" means being able to support one's self. But this is hardly all "making it" means.

It means being able to do what I want to do in life.

When you accomplish all that, will you have "made it"?

If "Making It" implies being content with life, I believe I would only need #'s 2, 3, and 7 of the above list. :)

Having "accomplished" all 7 in your list I'm still not content with my life, which seems quite empty.

I agree. My list would go thus:

1. Having my basic material needs met.
2. Having my basic security needs met, including being healthy.
3. Being able to accept who I am without qualifications or stipulations.

Pretty sure the standard social meaning of "Making it" is having sex.

For me it means
1. being able to live comfortably (not luxurious, but all right), near the people I care about.
2. having a job I enjoy (most days) where people show me, at the very least, basic respect.
3. waking up happy (or at least content), instead of waking up and thinking "Oh great, another day I wish I could sleep through".
4. getting to see some of the places I've always wanted to visit.
5. If I could find a guy I get along with, and feel comfortable with, I'd want to get married.
6. have kids or adopt.
7. Most importantly, being able to be myself and live my life how I want to, without fighting with other people who want to control me.

Actually, any one item on my list is considered "Making it" to someone - you don't have to have accomplished all of them to have been "Making it".

Fnord, I had an uncle who had everything on the list above your post. He was CEO of one of the largest corporations in America, was worth millions, had house in Brentwood, kids, as many beautiful women as he wanted--the whole nine yards. He was also a terrible alcoholic, and one of the most miserable, unhappy people I ever knew. None of these things will necessarily get us what we want, which is to be happy.

I'd say I've "made it" if:
1. I lived in a condo in a nice area like Ballard with its walking proximity to restaurants, a movie theatre, music clubs, library, waterfront, etc.
2. I'm making money off my writing so I won't need a regular job.
3. I can put these anxiety issues behind me and have a friend to go out to places with.
