I have had a rough last 12 months. I have been struggling with depression for almost seven years at this point. I did complete my Bachelor's Degree in IT last August. Since then, I have had sinus infections.

My primary doctors put me on a list of almost 12 antibiotics in just 6 months resulting in a fungal (thrush or candida) infection in my sinuses. My parents are complaining that I cannot find a job. I recently found out that there is mold in the house we live in, which I am allergic to.

My mother thinks I am going crazy and does not believe that there is a mold problem. However, I have had neurological shaking as well as changes in my vision and a long list of other symptoms.

I am 25 years old and turn 26 next March. Due to the extended coverage on my parents' insurance (Thank you very much, Pres. Obama), I have been able to take my time finishing my Bachelor of Science.

My parents believe that the mold problem is "imaginary". Just because it doesnt bother them, doesn't mean that mold won't make me sick.

I am getting sick of the lack of empathy at my house. I have been applying for IT positions, and had plenty of interviews, but the longer I remain unemployed, and stuck in my "Mildewy prison", the more the viscious cycle of depression and illness will repeat itself. I literally feel like I am going to vomit due to the moldy odors.

sounds like your best bet is to keep applying for IT jobs and move out as soon as you've saved enough to do so. mold in a house is very expensive to fix. perhaps your parents can't afford to fix it even if they wanted to. try spending time away from the house, perhaps at the library, to give yourself some relief.

is the thrush in your sinuses better?

Do you have an Aunt or Uncle, grandparents, or a sibling, where if you ask them if you can stay with them for a while, there's a reasonable chance they'll say yes?

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. I'm dealing with my own mold saga myself (see "black mold" thread in this same subforum) and I feel for you. Hopefully when you are able to get a new job you can move out into your own place?

And in the meantime, could you afford like an $80 HEPA air filter for your room?

(and you other folks, would that be enough to do some good?)

I finally got a full time temporary position with the Fed Govt starting early May. I got allergy testing and I was allergic to dust/ dust mites (which makes sense since my room is very dusty and our cleaning maid who comes on Wednesdays vacuums, that sets off a bad allergic reaction) and mildly allergic to Curvularia (spelling; a type of mold found on dead leaves that spreads to grass in the spring. This makes sense, since raking leaves in the fall sets off a bad allergic reaction (especially if the leaves are damp or water logged).

I don't think we have Stachybotrys. Darn, I wanted to play Tetris (Stacking Botrys) (ba-dum-ching)

Make contact with a good health food shop and get some caprilyic acid. Google it - it may help you a lot.
