Or do most Aspies here seem suicidal? I'm not singeling anyone out or anything, it's just I keep seeing people here being suicidal. Quite sad really..

Oh, and feel free to move this to somewhere appropiate.

hmmm....I had been suicidal, but not any more...I'm sure there are many aspies who aren't suicidal...suicidality is more related to depression, in my opinion, and I guess, it is easier for aspies to get depressed? But a lot of NTs get depressed too..so I wouldn't sinlge out aspies for depression...

What is suicidal? I have wanted to die since I was very young, but I know damned well that I don't have the guts/will. I had a couple of opportunities which met my criteria for "the good death," but I didn't take them. Still, nearly every night I make an attempt (in my own half hearted way). Eh, I guess since I died several years ago anyway, it's kind of pointless.

Sorry if I seemed to single out Aspies, I didn't mean to.

RedMage has a good reason for singling us out in a way: Because of our differences, we are often treated pretty badly, so we get beaten down to a depressive state. It's much easier for us to fall into this than an NT who can fit in just fine.

It would seem that alot of aspies are suicidal, because of the social problems and lack of understanding both ways.
I'm not, I've never considered suicide seriously, but I still get downcast.

I would never commit suicide, but sometimes death does seem easier then life. And I do see a lot of messages like this. But I think that's partly because our NT run world tells us that you're only in real deep trouble if you want to die and anything leading up to that point is stupid and self indulgent. No one posts their problems until it's gettting 'serious'.

That is fine...I wasn't trying to say that you singled out aspies....it was just a way of describing my opinion that AS is not directly linked to being suicidal or depressed...

by the way, it seems there is no such word as 'suicidality'...my mistake...I accidentally coined the word...I was using it to mean 'suicidalness'(which is a word that also does not exist)...as a noun form for 'the tendency to be suicidal'...

I wondered that too, but only because I have been suicidal before. I am kind of under the impression that my condition is going to pretty much bar me from getting a good paying job because there don't seem to be enough people who understand the condition enough to allow me the learning/emotional space that I need. Also I tend to get talked about. People sort of form their own opinions about me because they don't really get me, then treat me accordingly. The constant anxiety of "What is being assumed about me this time, and what's going to happen to me because of it?" makes me very insecure, and when something does happen to me, I get very near the edge. In a couple of intances, the only thing that stopped me was the fact that I couldn't bring myself to carry out any of the methods that I had in mind at the time.

So I guess after my diagnosis I was curious if this problem affected a lot of people with autism/aspergers, especially after the Nikki Bacharach incident (perhaps a negative publicity for the condition as a whole but notable nonetheless). I'm not sure, though, whether knowing I'm not alone is a positive thing or a negative thing.

I think about it everyday. I doubt I'll ever do it though, I've had my chances.

this is just rambling but...

lack of perceived control over one's existence?

I've never been suicidal, mainly because if I tried to kill myself, I'd freak out.

Sometimes I think I will never be able to survive, and my existence will only increasingly become abject, so it may just as well be best to save all the suffering and die now.
