And it sucked big time. Firstly there was a boring introduction lecture, i had to just sit there for three hours and do nothing. Secondly it feels almost like high school to me. Feeling awkward all over again. I seriously don't know if i'm gonna hold out long enough, because i don't really feel motivated to study. The environment doesn't seem hostile to me but it doesn't look really friendly either. I'm starting to think that another stage of depression will begin soon :(. I just don't understand why people feel so calm all the time while i'm constantly anxious. It's like i lack something really common.

Hi Dizzee,

People do feel anxious--but they don't show it. They seem calm.

This was only your first day--give it a chance.

So what that it's only the first day. I saw people socialising who've never met before. It's just me who's clueless and got nothing to share. Makes me want to get drunk alone again and feel like I can be anything for 2 hours.

In truth, some people socialize, and some people don't. You don't see the people who don't socialize; you only see the ones that do. The ones that just do their work: they're probably in the majority.

I didn't do that well in the "social" department in college; I did even worse in high school. I got by.

Today was my first day at the university I transferred too as well, and I had four days of orientation before that. I wish I could say that it went smoothly, but I was quite nervous about how things would work out. Does it make me want to quit? No, because even though I was feeling nervous today, it was only the first day and I know that in time I will adapt to my new surroundings.

In terms of socializing, I haven't been doing well with that and have been keeping to myself mostly. I feel that anyone I meet that I'll become friendly with will come my way. I'm not going to force myself into social situations I won't be comfortable with.

Are there student associations or student sport clubs there? We had student associations for every faculty who helped organise stuff for the students. Handing out the books every trimester for example, and a lot of other stuff. You may get to know a lot of people if you participate in such things. We also had sports clubs for students (which I didn't care about), and student associations that are seperate from the faculties (these were the ones for partying).
