Me and my dad brought the seven year old family cat in to the vet's today. He's been sick for the past week; not eating, not going to the bathroom, cold to the touch, lethargic. Turns out he had kidney and liver failure and was sick with advanced stage diabetes. He was a barn cat until my sister adopted him, his genetics were already pretty bad.

There was only a 25% chance of him making a recovery and even then we'd have to give him two shots a day for the rest of his life. We couldn't see doing that to him, he's so easily stressed out by everything. We were with him right till the end.

I then helped my dad bury him in the backyard under an apple tree. I'm gonna miss him.

I've never lost a cat before, but I've lost a dog and a number of small pets and I know full well how brutal it is. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear this. At least you gave him a loving home and were with him until the end. Not all animals get that, so he was lucky that there are good people like you in the world.

Why not plant some flowers on his grave.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My husband and I just lost our 18 y/o cat from renal failure a month ago, and it was tough to get over.

RIP Kasey

My condolences. I've been through the pain of losing three cats over the past dozen years, so I know it's no fun.

I cannot remember having really cried when close people die. Maybe a tear or two when my mother passed away in the spring of 2010. But when my cat died the same spring, I did. A whole day. Then something strange turned out, which I didn't know in advance. See, I had already - a long time beforehand - picked a name for the next cat because I could see the former cat was near the end of her days. She, the new cat, was born on her special name day (*) some 100 km from me and she opened her eyes the very hour my old cat closed hers. This I learned when I traveled there to get her home, a couple of months later. These five years she has been sleeping in my bed, close to me.

There's a kitten for you somewhere. You will find him or her when you feel it is the right time.

I am so sorry for your loss. Kasey was loved and your love for him must have greatly enhanced his life right to the end. It hurts a lot when our beloved animals must cross the Rainbow Bridge. I understand how much you will be missing him. I still miss my orange boy (six months and one week since he crossed the bridge, I think of him every day and he will always be part of my life, memories and heart).

I felt the same way. I only cried once for about a minute or two when my grampie died back in 2012 but I didn't really think about it much (it got so my parents were worried about how I didn't seem overly affected by his death) and when I was in the room with the vet putting my cat down, I struggled a few times to hold back tears. My dad noticed but I just told him I was having an allergy attack.
