I had a similar situation. I was in college and met a guy who said he found me attractive. I talked to him a little to be nice. Then the guy asked right out how good I was at sex and for me, being tiny and shy, that scared the heck out of me. On campus, we had people from many backgrounds, from different countries and I can count more positive experiences than negative. So, I tried not to look at his actions as a reflection on all from that continent. I became more wary about talking to strangers around campus, though...

I think that you will find that not all black people are what some stereotypes make us out to be. The same is true for people from different countries. Like others have said, there's a mix up of nice and mean through out the world. Where someone comes from or the color of their skin does not make them one way or the other.

I've had the same run-ins with Italians and Catholics. I think the fact that I have good friends who are also in these groups helps. I sure wouldn't try to strain myself to not feel racist, I mean I'm not the one who did anything wrong in these situations, and I strive to treat others well. I've met people who actually used their ethnicity to justify their outbursts too, that just sounds like pure emotional laziness and I'm not picking up the tab and internalize that kind of negativity to allow someone else to act however they want.

Your not Moonman so dont sweat it, its just you had a bad experience with a crazy psycho black dude but not all black people are like that just dont assume all people of the ethnicity are like that, there are bad people in every group. Just dont be like this guy ---> [link redacted] Warning very offensive dialect, click at your own risk, like I said dont be like this guy.

One time, I was randomly walking to school and some random black guy came up to me and asked for the time. I said "it's 9:27". He then asked if he could use my phone to call his sister, and I told him no. He said "Is it because I'm black?" I said " no. It's because I don't know who you are and I'm late for school." H then said " I really think it's cause I'm black." He kept asking and asking to use my phone. I began to get a little bit scared and defensive as I wasn't sure what would happen next. He even asked if he could follow me to school. This guy looked like he was high off his ass and was trying to follow me to school. After a while, I decided to cross the street, and luckily the guy was probably high and didn't notice me crossing and he never bothered me again. This guy looked like a stereotypical wannabe gangbanger or rapper so I wasn't sure how that situation would've panned out. I guess my only "prejudice" is towards stereotypical people.

To be honest, I don't really think you should lose sleep over it.

^i think so too.

i can recall a similar incident that didn't involve me, but i observed...a slightly tubby teenaged looking person asked a lady waiting for the bus if he could use her phone, her refusing and looking noticeably scared. she walked away.

then i had to listen to the guy rant about how this is the problem with people nowadays and how we are all so cold and how she should be ashamed, in crisp spanish.

I think it's a perfectly normal reaction you had a bad experience you are anxious of getting into the same situation.

As you mentioned you had similar issues with Russians so you aren't been racist, you are being you reacting to a bad situation.

Read more. Read and talk to people, different types of people. Please also don't alienate black people who might have aspergers and see this (like me)

It's sad that some people live up the worst racial caricatures but you have to remember that we're all individuals and that these people aren't any different than you or I. They have families, moms and dads, there are good and bad people of every shade. Think about all the awful people of your own race and then be racist, it seems silly to me. I don't feel like I am on team white and they're on team black, I'm me and they're them. That's all.

I was actually the only white kid in my 1st and 2nd grade classes, I lived in a very poor inner city in the rust belt and I went to public school. I've seen the worst of the worst, absolutely but people are people if you spend time around them. Some were good, some were mean, some were funny, some were smart, some were dumb, some were violent, some are cool, some were nice. My experience has been the same with white people in similar circumstances. You see how silly it is? You just gotta have some street smarts about you and look at people as individuals.

If anything, I've gotten more respect from blacks than I ever did from any Caucasian, once they know where I'm coming from.

Your not racist, you just had a bad experience, there are scum in all colors but not everyone of each group is scum, there are many more cooler kinder black people than bad ones, same with White, Hispanic and Asian etc. if you do not see that then you will fall and be corrupted to becoming racist. So in short you were being harrassed by an as*hole not because hes black but he was being an as*hole.

Good news. I no longer feel racist towards black men. What I feel anxious about now is security type men or men with strong voices. That's kind of a common trait for black men, so it makes sense that they can make me feel anxious. If they have soft voices or don't talk around me I don't feel anxious.

Personally, as a Jew with tanned skin and dark hair, when I'm a tourist in Europe, I feel more scared of "Aryan" people, with blonde hair and blue eyes, because even though I know it's just a stereotype, my instincts make me think of the Nazi murderers who murdered my family, in the name of having a blonde hair and blue eyes.

Was it just Marxist brainwashing that told me I should treat people as human beings, and not judge them without knowing them?

Thank you for opening my eyes!

Every single human being is racist. Every. Single. One. I see people dressed in Muslim garb at the grocery store and I think are they going to kill us? Terrorists are everywhere. On the bus. At the mall. At any public event where there are a lot of people they will bomb and kill us. I hate them and wish they would all just DIE.

I hate Americans, and I hate men, I hate teenagers, and I hate myself. I just punched myself several times on the arms. It really hurt. Good.

There is no such thing as a human devoid of prejudice.

A real man admits what is inside of him and does not hide behind politics or religion to justify or condone it. A real man embraces all of who he is, and works to change the things within himself that are not quite right. Congratulations, you are a real man, because starting a thread like this takes balls of steel.
