What happened? Sounds like you had a poor experience, I'm sorry to hear that.

I told them I wanted to kill myself. They said why. I said because I never get what I want and people don't like me. They said okay you can always call back later if you want.

Another one of them I told people cut off contact with me, they said what did you do to make them do that, I said I was unfairly treated and misunderstood, they said there must be a good reason your friends stopped talking to you.

Gosh, that's no good - if that's how they are responding, then they either have very bad training and/or supervision.

I wonder what is happening in England, whether these services have had their funding slashed and so have abandoned decent training as a cost saver.... it wouldn't surprise me if this had happened. We are living in mean times.

I still find joy in some things. I went to a contemporary art gallery yesterday that was a treat for the eyes and the mind. All kinds of odd perspectives were gained there.

I'm sorry you have had bad experiences with Samaritans. I have used them but only by text - I really struggle with the phone. Sometimes I don't find them helpful, sometimes I do. But I've never felt they've treated me badly.

I'm glad you enjoyed the art gallery.

What kind of art do you create, Fifasy?

Thank you YellowBanana.

B19, I started off painting watercolor portraits then went onto oil ones. I did a 10 week watercolor class which was what started it. I put an ad asking if anyone wanted portraits and only got one reply. It was a man and he sent a photo of his wife, two daughters and himself. So I did the painting and my style at the time was quite chaotic so the portrait of them looks quite eerie and dysfunctional. I looked him up on Facebook a few years later and saw that he put he had divorced so maybe I did an accurate portrayal!

I'm considering taking it up again because another aspie has asked me if we can both do a painting and compare to try to help one another develop.

It's a talent I really admire. Some portraiture is really astonishing to me, in representing simultaneously the person's external and internal characteristics. It's like some magic wand was waved over the result and revealed all hidden facets. Love it.

Wow. Great way to make someone feel worse about themselves. These individuals shouldn't be working at Samaritans. :|

The omission of support services specifically trained and targeted to serve the needs of the AS community re suicide prevention is a glaring omission, I mean one designed in consultation with AS advocates who are on the spectrum and have skills in service design and delivery. They exist though the issue is funding really and the lack of will.

NTs (some) make big noises (sometimes) about the "tragedy of higher suicide rates" - but their inaction doesn't match their words and wringing hands.

I hope you find support that is useful to you Fifasy, and there will be some good people out there somewhere, but finding them seems to be a hit and miss obstacle course unfortunately. I am glad you shared your experience with us.
