I can imagine it must have been very nerve wracking. Are you still regimented at all? My friend was in the army and she's up at the crack of dawn, bed made, clothes all ironed and laid out the night before, water bottle filled, bag packed, lunch made, it's all a bit scary.

I wasn't regimented even when I was in, I was a civilian in disguise. I made it a point to look as least-military as I could get away with. I grew out my hair a bit [uniquely in the world, the American military insists on butch-short hair for its members] and slicked it down with goop during duty hours. where I was stationed, there were many businesses that made it a point to refuse service to military personnel, for various reasons. in the decade or so after the Vietnam war, service members were not especially popular. anyways, I got yelled at all the time for being a slob/slovenly/disorganized/unmilitary, all my attempts at being military were ludicrous. I don't seem to have a single neat/tidy/organized gene in my body. I slept 'til 4PM today, for example. so you can see how being in the military was hell for me as well as a thorn in the side of those I served with.

I'm obsessing way too much on dying again. I need to stop.

How can I think more positive about life?

Things I should be grateful for:

I'm not homeless
I'm not fighting in a war
I still have my health
I'm still young
I'm loosing weight and looking better
I'm making more friends now
I've got a family that looks out for me
I have a beautiful baby neice
I have a lot of beautiful things in my bedroom
I have two cats I love

I just need to force myself to smile about life more. :D

it has been proven in lab studies I read about a while ago, that if you take your fingers and force your mouth into a smile of sorts while standing in front of a mirror, that it will cause you to bust up laughing and you'll then feel better. repeat as needed.

That's a wonderful idea! When I die instead of being burried or cremated we can hire a taxidermist to stuff me and my family can keep my as an heirloom to be passed down for generations. :D
