I been feeling very down this week, I feel very dumb, hopeless, useless, feel like I want to die. I feel like I don’t belong here anymore, everything is soooo different, people have new ways of saying words that I don’t get, technology has advanced soooo much, they have smart kitchen appliances that connect to the internet, people can turn on stuff from apps, they have smart security for homes, people can turn on lights, lock doors & more stuff from an app. I feel like I went backward in time. I been getting up late this week, I didn’t want to get out of bed, I felt safer in bed, I also been praying to die.

There are still people on this earth carrying water in jars and cooking over firewood.

You live in the USA so you can make whatever style of life you want. I have an iPad and a flip phone. So far the only tech I’ve been forced into is two factor identification.

You can opt out of parts of life that don’t suit you without opting out of the whole thing.

Yeah, this.

Language changes. Sometimes there are new words/slang. Google what the definitions are if you care to know.

Smart homes and smart appliances and all that tech stuff exists, sure, but it's far from the norm that people are all using that stuff. I've only seen one or two people using google alexa stuff to control lights and music - and the one guy is an electrical engineer. I've seen a few people using doorbell cameras they can see on their smart phones or whatever. I've yet to see someone us a fridge/stove/microwave/washer/dryer etc connected to the internet for anything and I Also personally don't see the point in using any of that crap and probably never will.

Technically I'm a Technologist considering I have a Diploma of Technology, but I listen to FM radio in my vehicles, us CD's in my car once in a while, don't care about the "internet of things," possibility of connecting a bunch of stuff to the internet for exactly zero added value in my life, and prefer the simpler reality of going to the beach and enjoying a beer in the sunshine with like minded friends, or getting outdoors for sports or riding my 30 year old motorcycle.

I don't see the point in getting all worked up about new technology that's available when we're not obligated to use it AND it's not even the norm that everyone is using it. I mean, smartphones.. sure, people are using those - but even then no one has any obligation to use them at all never mind Most of their capabilities. All that stuff you mentioned may as well still be in an episode of Star Trek for how few people actually use it in their homes and lives. Just keep your life simple - no one is forcing you to learn how to use all the latest available consumer electronic junk. I mean, cool story that Apple just released a $3500 pair of glasses.. the 10 people in the city that are interested in that can have it as far as I'm concerned. I can do just fine with what I have.

I second what's been said. Remember that everything you feel right now will eventually pass.
It's the world around you that's creating it's own playground, but inner peace is Real. You don't have to doubt that. All of the advanced tech is pushed, but never required. Its presence has no more power over you than you might give it.
And please, for your own sake, Live. <3 There's a future You beyond this point who's depending on you to not give up.

You're not alone. Love you. >>>Hugz<<<

I was a late adopter of a smart phone. (I had a flip phone before, and before that only a landline, until maybe 8 years ago.) There are still so many things on my phone that I don't know how to do. But I try to just use the things on it that I need and not worry about the ones I don't. I don't have any of the other technology mentioned, and I don't miss it.

But what concerns me is how you feel about yourself. It's okay not to know everything. No one does. Can you try not to beat yourself up, and stop believing all these negative things about yourself? I know it's hard. But you are fine just the way you are. You can try to learn about new things if they interest you, but it's also fine if you don't.

Every person is an important person because everyone together makes up the fabric of humanity. You are important.

It's not you, much of modernity is over hyped and doing little to no good. I only use tech stuff to stay in touch with the people who matter most to me. Please keep fighting the good fight, the world would be poorer with your absence.

Hang in there Kitty, I've been suicidal in the past when I was 21 but I'm glad I didn't go through with it. I hate smartphones but I manage to live OK.

Life has a way of teaching you how to live it, but you gotta stay alive to catch the lessons. - Tony Bennett

I choose to keep faith in that quote and believe it will be true for me. I invite you to choose the same belief.

I think being resistant to new technologies, in our context, is quite beautiful. Own it, wear it on your sleeve, ostentatiously. GO BACK IN TIME! And take me with you! I think being resistant to these technological changes is so immensely understandable but I get a sense you don't quite accept it in yourself.

I don’t want your future
I’m never, I'm never coming home
I don’t want your future
I’ll be born before you’re born
- Anohni

I don't know what would cheer you up except taking a piece of yourself that is confusing and causes anguish and deciding that, for today at least, when it's practical, you're going to try to radically love and accept that part of you. Sometimes you just have to remind yourself you have permission. You are permitted. This existence is yours. Love this about yourself--I do. :D
