Is it right to walk away or am I running from problems?
I remember one day at work in the morning, I had customers who were confused about the price of a product which also confused me and I then walked away from the till to find someone to help and I just went straight into the staff room and stayed there until the matter was resolved. I always seem to have this thing of walking away and hiding somewhere because I'm upset about something. I remember hiding in the men's toilets at college and uni before classes start and would not go into class when everyone else was there. Now I've been doing it work.
Sometimes you just need to walk away because it’s too much. I wouldn’t worry about whether it’s right nor not, it’s just reality.
Maybe you could explain to your coworkers why you do it without getting into specifics but saying something like “sorry I needed to step away and let you handle that situation because I was overwhelmed (or whatever the case may be).” Over time try to pay attention to what you are feeling right before you need to walk away and gradually practice increasing your tolerance to that feeling by accepting it.
