Tim,

A lot of professors make it their goal to "weed out" the students majoring in their field so that only the "best" are left. Don't let this professor turn you off to what you want to do. No matter how overinflated this person's ego is, they are only one person. Besides, the only person who really matters is you when you're deciding what to do in life. Go after what makes you happy and damn anyone who tries to tell you you can't have it.

As far as where you want to live. Start researching some alternatives; you have the entire world to choose from. Geologist are needed in a lot of places. I've heard that Portland is a pretty good place to live and that's not too far from Seattle (although, to be honest I live in Georgia so I don't know that much about the west coast).

The finding a girlfriend part is a bit more tricky. I hate to say this but you might need to widen your parameters on this one. I know you want to find a girl who has all the same interests you do, but maybe it's more realistic to find a girl who shares your morals and goals and maybe a few of your interests. Everyone is unique and you might find that it's kinda boring dating a female version of yourself. Differences can be fun and a way to experience another way of thinking and doing things that isn't your own.

Don't die. WrongPlanet wouldn't be the same, without you. :(

I haven't looked at Portland. I chose Seattle because my first two choices, San Francisco and New York, were too expensive (although I am not sure if there is a demand for geologists in NYC).

Is this in reference to prices being high, or the demand for geologists?

Hi Tim - I live in the Metroplex. I'm not a female, so I can't help you on the dating thing, but I could help you with your isolation. Next time you're in DFW and you feel like going for coffee or a few games of pool or something like that, I would be up to it. Just let me know when you are coming to town. Pm me for my phone number and address if you think you might be interested.
Cheers,
Martin

Keep your goals fluid. New possibilities are created every day. No one knows where they'll eventually end up. When I was working for my first employer I never dreamed I'd move to Minneapolis/St. Paul and work as a contract programmer for 9 1/2 years, but I did.

Goals are what we work on while our lives take shape around us in ways we can't imagine. They give you a direction, that's all. The important part is the journey and how you use it to shape yourself.

And one who will be perpetually single. No one wants to date me.

As far as a partner goes, I was looking for a politically liberal Aspie woman who likes animated sitcoms.

I'm sure there's at least some demand. My father works for a company in the oil industry, and they have had at least one project in New York state. With as many oil companies as there are, and as small as the one he works for is, I'm sure that's a drop in the bucket.

Hey I finally found one of those. She lives 1500 miles away. You've got to be a little flexable, a little adaptable. Maybe 2% of the women within 100 miles are right for a given NT man. Maybe .2% if he's aspie. If the woman who's right for you is not where you are, then she's somewhere else.

I would have guessed that most of the jobs would be in the southern and western U.S.
