Oh that would be so nice. Blue skys and sunshine all the time, what a thought. So different to the continuous grey skys here in winter, and to a lesser degree in summer  . Feeling the sun on my skin today was amazing, I had actually forgotten what it felt like!

I can't remember what the sun feels like. The air is so cold it burns. My ear got frostbite the other day and it still feels weird.

What region of Canada do you live in? That sounds like ridiculously harsh living conditions.

Eastern Ontario - Kingston. The sun does shine, but the air still stings. The ear was my own fault as my hat got wet.

Yikes, it isn't that far north either, makes the weather here seem ok, quite mild, just alot of cloud cover.
Vitamin D is promoted by the health services here after a recent re-emergence of rickets in babies.

I wouldn't mind living there.

Has the unemployment situation gotten a bit better?

I understand it was around 15% a couple of years ago.

I like the Green of Ireland.

The unemployment rates are on average 10-11%, but that doesn't account for those who moved from unemployed to education, nor does it account for the youth 'brain drain'. At the end of 2013 it was estimated that 1000 people left Ireland each week that year to find work abroad, almost half of which were recent university graduates, I don't know what the 2014 figures are, I stopped paying attention, it was disheartening.

Isn't it true that in the West of Ireland, there is less snow than around Dublin?

I could understand that there would be problems with 10 cm of snow in the Isles area. The roads tend to be curved and narrow there in urban areas. ANY amount of snow would cause problems, I would imagine.

You have to have winter tires to drive in these conditions. And you have to make slow deliberate movements with the car.
Walking is awful. You have to go onto the street sometimes because of the drifts, but the streets aren't that safe.

Yep....especially along main drags. You have to practice Social Darwinism with the cars.

Could be true, its a small country, it depends on the altitude. Typically when the east/capital experience snowfall there is a lot of media coverage because it is more densely populated, I generally don't pay much attention to that either.

This clip was the source of great hilarity at the end of 2010, and was replayed by many Irish TV shows. Yeah, we are unaccustomed to snow, it's quite the novelty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrgG4FPMTYo
