I don't want to say that men can't be abused by women...not at all(!), but I just think it's pretty bizarre and ironic that someone is referring to me as privileged. I've dealt with extreme stuff, including many instances of actual rape.

In any case, people (men and women) are free to find behavior creepy or to feel however they feel whether we like it or not. Trying not to be creepy is advisable.

It's simply working on one specific facet of our personality to avoid making others feel uncomfortable. Most of us would find it worth the trouble because we wouldn't want others to feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Personal growth is a positive thing.

Okay. I think one of the worst things a man can do is stare at a woman for to long.

:|

No one has said that it's one of the worst things a man can do. It's just creepy, inappropriate behavior that a person should try to avoid along with asking women in bars to sit in your lap (etc).

The thing is though I might only ask a woman to sit on my lap if I was drunk. I would never dream of saying it when sober and maybe it’s a of my OCD combined with ignorance as well.

Also can I point out that I find it ironic a lady can chose to sit on a guys lap yet apparently that’s not considered creepy behaviour. Double standards huh?

Don't get drunk in public, than.

If anyone is privileged in pubs or in society, especially when alcohol is being served or people are looking for partners, it's the ones who haven't been stalked, followed, harassed, manipulated, forcibly restrained, touched, SA'ed, impregnated, injured, tortured, traumatised, AND tormented by a person of any gender, once, twice, or even multiple times in the past.

Check your privilege, please. I am deeply skeptical that you would be having the same opinion if the same lack of standard was applied to you. I doubt my personal experience is truly reflective of the world at large, I'm just glad that random women have stopped groping and treating me like a sex object. But, I doubt very much that I ever would have been able to get away with calling any of them creepy, even though some of it was criminal in nature by the standards of the area I live in.

It sounds like you should move, if that's how the law works where you live.
Women can indeed be creepy.
Some can be downright psychotic.
Same with men.
Same with NT or ND or trans / nonbinary.
Creepy is as creepy does.

I'm not the only woman here who has admitted to being SA by other women.
We've also acknowledged that men can be SA by women, or by other men.
In all cases we've encouraged support and legal assistance for the victim.

This thread isn't about mocking respondents for their points of view.
I assume we all have the same point of view, don't we?
That being, all people should be safe from creepy people and harassment in public.

Attacking TP as 'privileged' or uneducated about assault, isn't gonna fly with me.
You know what she's been through because you participate in her thread.
She's looking out for Jamesy's best interest, like we all should.

Let's keep this thread on topic and show concern for ALL members, regardless of gender.
That's what TP does and I'm sure you can too.

And out come the wolves. ^

This is going to be fun.
They're hoping to push our buttons so we'll freak out and report them.
Then they can call us man-haters.

By the way have I mentioned how much I hate you because of your gender, Recidivist?
Men are sooooo creepy. / sarc

Thanks for sticking up for me y’all.

English really should have an acceptable plural you, like “vous.”

^^ Nothing wrong with "y'all" especially if said with a southern drawl.

BTW you are more than capable of handling things on your own, but I like a good dust up.

It does. It's you. Thou is the informal and singular, you is the plural and formal second person pronoun.

People sometimes mistakenly assume thou is formal because of how it's retained by some translations of the bible, but thou is cognate with tu; you is cognate with vous.

I don’t see “thou” used too often in modern English.

We're just not familiar with each other enough anymore to get away with thou.

IIRC there's some dialects in the UK (Northern England and Scotland) that use it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thou#Pers ... n_singular

Apparently Dutch has also lost du and also has a construct analogous to y'all/yinz/youse/etc.

I'm a big fan of "y'all" lately, although places that say that word use it for singular as well. ( :?: )

We English need to get our lexicon together.
