that is what I thought, too, sartresue, however I remember older people with peace signs as medallions around their necks and a mock turtle neck shirt and a Neru jacket, and I kinda cringe at the thought of 'old people' getting hep with all that jive.

Emos unite? Since when have we surrendered ourselves to labels?

Aspie is a label I cannot escape from, since its as we all know a life long disability, but isn't the nature of our overall mission to dispel stereotypes and cliches?

The very idea of someone calling themselves an emo to me just says that they are surrendering themselves and surrendering their individuality to fashion and pre-mature morbidity. It seems cool these days to act like your life is not worth living when in fact nothingt is wrong with you at all. No real problems, but merely pretending that you would prefer to die. And yet no balls to even go through with suicide coz you're a glutton for punishment and no-one gives centre stage and all their attention to a corpse.

You can always tell that someone has intelligence when you call them an emo and they deny it. Since admiting that your nothing but a ststistic in ther hormonal tragedies of puberty is mere defeatism.

And a little advice for the "emo" that started this thread, there is no such thing as a "real" emo. there is merely emo. You don't seem to realise that you are lumping yourself in with all the sheep everytime you say you're an emo. You cant say baaaaaa in a different tune to the rest of the herd.

When I was about 14, I used to be self-defeatist, merely because I was emotional and had no idea what outlet I could utilise to vent any of my frustration. And I never claimed centre stage coz I knew my problems were infantesimal in comparrison to others. Even when I was diagnosed with cancer, I soldiered on. I never claimed to be anything or anyone but simply myself.

The very idea you can call yourself an emo means you want to be included in that cliched category.

I can somewhat consider myself emo. Cause I cry alot, and think suicide sometimes. But I don't know what would happen in the future for me and my family. And I had a animal friend that helped me keep going. U just got to think what would happen to your family how would they feel.
You would make a big impact on your family but not on the whole world. Thats why I am working out of my emo stage to become a better person and help other people.

That is damn commendable Mobius. You have shown that you have an underlying maturity that is developing, and you have also shown that an emo mentality is merely a stage in adolescent development. You have said that you are going through the motions of it. You haven't said that that mentality rules over you. Its good to know that people like yourself have the strength to not surrender and claim that just coz they feel depressed in life, then they will ALWAYS be depressed.

Emo is a phase. A name and a label given to a stage of adolescence. Its not a lifestyle. its like having an obssession about the power rangers as a kid, then claiming that you will always BE a power ranger. Pathetic. So its good to know that you will grow out of it.

Ok, here is the list of qualifications required to be an emo:

1. The lack of individuality to do everything that everyone else is doing and therefore become a sheep with no brain or conscience of your own and only the ignorance to disregard what thoughts or feelings you may have but insterad emulate everyone else of your friends who are all identical and have identical problems and identical whinings about a world that apparently doesnt care. To surrender yourself to a stereotype that doesnt reflect who you truly are, because deep down everyone is a unique individual. emos merely fail to muster the courage and will to find their own identity and instead settle to be one of the flock. No differences, no inner thoughts. Just the feelings of others since cowardice is too strong to aquire your own opinion about any issues in this world.

Adam-Anti-Um,

Just a reminder. Please remember the rules of WP allow you to denounce and defame what ever philosophy you please, however you may not attach any personal indications to any of it. ( i.e. you may rant about Emo in general, but you may not attack personally or specifically anyone that claims to be Emo.)
thank you for remembering this key point.

Who said I was attacking anything or anyone? I was merely stating what emo is. I can understand that if that is what you can manage, but that is what it is. No attacks here. Its merely a statement that to be emo, you have to be a sheep. Since therin lies the label of emo.

You do realise you can call yourself an individual who is having problems in life, dealing with issues, alcohol and/or drug addiction, abuse, or even be a MCR fan etc WITHOUT placing the stereotype of emo onto yourself, right?

By saying you're an emo, is just the same as saying that you don't have a mind of your own.

Thats the problem the constituants of emo are having with this. When an emo is told they are an emo, they take offence. They never realise that its not the person who is being critisised, its the label that they have willingly slapped across their mind.

You do know you, as human beings can do better. You don't have to be a sheep. You can have a mind of your own.

When I call someone emo, im only saying they are and they arent respecting the mind they have coz they have surrendered it to a fashionable mass mentality of pretend morbidity. I'm not attacking them.

Keep that in mind at all times, and ensure you have absorbed what I have said and taken it into consideration before retorting. Coz you will find you have misunderstood me.
