Do NOT pace in front of them. This tends to REALLY freak them out.

I think this thread is an incredibly useful set of tips, which I think people could use with success.

Strangely I am in the opposite position. Im tired of trying constantly to please other people, whether they are aspie, or NT.

more gals "tend and befriend"

for the same reasons, too. defense.

20. Try not to have anyone between where you are staring off into the middle distance and yourself. They have no idea you are staring past them.

Don't make jokes that you know they won't understand.
Don't monologue about anything.
Don't forget how to speak.
Don't spin in circles.
Personal space: don't stand too close or too far away.
Don't shut down.

Yes, yes it does. Even if they do know you're an aspie/autie.

Don't growl in frustration (this can be hard or impossible not to do). NT's will often say things like "Arg!" if they're really frustrated, whereas many aspies will growl like an animal instead.

Don't make animal noises. I don't care how good your wolf howl / hawk screech / meow is. Unless you're deliberately trying to weird someone out, don't do this, even though the results can be humorous. :) And yes, I have still done this on rare occasion, knowing full well it would be regarded as weird.

You might want to consider not walking with your hands behind your back. I know some aspies, myself included, do this, but it really draws attention. It doesn't get any real reactions, it just looks a little odd.

Based on my social misadventures...

- Don't look at one person when talking to another. This can lead to some serious confusion and misunderstandings.

-Pretend to listen to people. For example do not admit to having been daydreaming while in the middle of a group conversation, because you found the background music playing in the restaurant “enchanting". This is not something a lot of people understand.

-When pretending to listen to people, keep it simple, just nod and smile. Do not try saying things like "really?" or "wow", when pretending to listen. Someone may have just been telling you about a relationship breaking up or their family member having passed away and you've now inadvertently reacted with interest, pleasure and excitement. This will make you look like a sycophant!

-Do not watch movies that you are obsessed with, with N.T's. They tend to talk during movies. They get annoyed if you ignore them.

Indeed. *Nods in agreement*

Don't yawn like a dog/cat either. (Can't seem to help it, myself.).
Don't use stock phrases and/or any type of echolalia unless it makes sense. (Sense to the other[s], not to you.).

I don't even bother trying to make NTs happy. What's the point, they'll still treat me like s**t anyway...
