For the most part, they don't really think about Aspies much at all. Assuming they're actively opposed to our existence is probably quite false.

How often do you think about people in Indonesia?

Not often, right? It doesn't touch your life; you don't know much about what it's like to live there; you don't know anybody who lives there.

(If you do actually think about Indonesia fairly often, pick a country you don't know much about. Same thing.)

NTs are probably the same way about autistic people. They aren't autistic; they only vaguely know what it means; and their biggest exposure to it has probably been some sort of mention in the media, quite possibly Rainman or the ubiquitous "nonverbal autistic child is the only witness to a murder" crime drama episode. They don't think much more about it than that, and not very deeply, because it's not something they care to learn about very much--just like you most likely haven't got much drive to learn about Indonesia.

(Geography and culture buffs, pick a subject you don't spend much time learning... maybe the cultivation of asparagus or the history of coal mining....)

NTs, for the most part, are ambivalent. They have the general "disability" stereotypes that they soak up from our culture in general; but they don't think very deeply about things that don't actually come into their own lives. (That's not really an NT thing, just a human thing; we can only concentrate on so much, and things outside our realm of interest and experience don't get much attention. So tell me... how DO you grow asparagus?)

Just most younger NT's are that way. It seems to me that it takes a lot of them longer to grow up.

Sounds like you might be surrounded by rude people, I can relate. I've reached the conclusion that life is better or worse depending on where you live. I don't know if people would feel this way about me if I told them I am an Aspie, ( I try not to tell them much of anything because I have learned from past experience, don't get too personal) but I DO know most of them treat me like this is what they want to say and this is how they feel about me regardless of what I tell them: that I'm
a). crazy b). weird
that I have a c). pointless existence
and am d). not too bright.
and if there's anything else I probably don't really want to know it...
Just yesterday I experienced another bout of rudeness which confirms once again what I already believe. Some places are much worse than others and if you happen to live in one of the rude places it's all too easy to develop a really bad attitude about it all.

This is what NTs think of me. I'm a genus who is a bit of a slow learner like Albert Einstein was. I have a vibrant personality. If I can't get what I want and I act up, they understand, because my face tells that I've had a hard life and they expect me to be a bit of a baby about such things, anyways. They know that I'm unworldly, so they might try to scam $300 from me, and sell me a vintage book and take my money and put my picture in the tabloid papers, saying that a famous person was walking the streets of Langley, BC.

No, I'm 100% sure that isn't what NTs think of me or other aspies at all. Perhaps it is what they think of you though. And I can see why.
does that make me the resident ignorant bashing-basher?

i use the full arsenal of my reasoning and extended vocabulary to try to prove these people into quiet shame on a regular basis it seems.

i wonder if i'm effective...

Thank you for insulting me with every point you listed. I am very intelligent and sociable; saying everyone thinks I am ret*d is equivalent to calling me ret*d. I am currently attending one of the best colleges in the United States, and I will become successful with that degree. I will not depend on society for my livelihood. Saying that everyone thinks I will be a burden is equivalent to saying you expect me to fail in my endeavors. People who know me enjoy my quirks, as it is refreshing to be around someone who is truly unique. Saying that everyone thinks I'm crazy is equivalent to saying that I am an unbalanced person. My entire family loves me and supports me. According to you, however, my mother regrets not aborting me and thinks that my life is worthless and purposeless. My friends, and sometimes even just acquaintances, trust me with potentially embarrassing secrets and ask me for advice when they aren't sure what to do. According to you, however, nobody trusts me and everybody is constantly on guard lest I take advantage of them, as I don't care or worry at all about the problems in their lives and what I could possibly do to alleviate them.

How can you make such sweeping judgments about billions of people? You don't know anything about them, and you sure as hell don't know a damn thing about me.

Yes, I know that most of them do not think well of aspies, in class,a teacher usually looks sad or terrified at me, or speaks to me in a somewhat ret*d way. By the way, far from all aspies are sociopaths, I think it's rare.

I think NT bashing can be healthy when done with a little understanding and tact. The us against them mentality helps build a sence of belonging. Sometimes life gets the better of me and NT can seem to be a defect but thats just life. When I found this site I was amused to no end by the way you can sometimes insult normal people because they're normal. Its not really fair to them but it helped me feel understood.

I think most of this crap we get is from selfishness, while some of it comes from misunderstanding. Almost everything about us makes us easy targets. I can understand how an NT girl might get creeped out by an Aspie dude crossing boundaries, but targetting us because walking weird is a sign of weakness or whatever is straight up selfish.

I don't give a f**k if anyone wants to call me out on NT bashing. The majority of the discrimination does come from us showing the signs of an easy victim. I don't believe the majority of it are misunderstandings, that just sounds like some politically correct BS (ironically we're known for being blunt). Our weaknesses must be understood really well if we get manipulated, ganged up on, and excluded so much.

And no, I'm not just talking about school. You can see this s**t everywhere, whether it's the classroom, streets, or the workplace. It's definitely worse on the streets since criminals choose victims the same way as high school bullies do. We might not be the only ones who are targetted, but we are more appealing targets than anyone else.

And to complicate this s**t further, there's ignorance too. Coming across as weird can make people think we're dangerous and s**t, when it fact dangerous people are known to be skilled at manipulating and charming. They're more likely to ask you the time and sucker punch you while you're off guard than jump outta the bushes with a machete. So yeah, I'm not saying NT's are all ignorant, I'm just pointing out it can be hard to distinguish between selfishness, misunderstanding, or ignorance.
