The one time Harley got out (2 years ago?), I was beside myself for 2 days. It was cold and rainy and I was sure she'd come right back after shooting out the door like a rocket. I'd go out every few hours and call to her. (My back yard is a vine-covered hill where lots of ferals and other critters hang out.) Almost exactly 48 hours later, I hear scratching at my front window, and there she is, annoyed with me for not getting the door open more quickly. She was a little damp but none the worse for her adventure.

Since then she's managed to get to the front porch a couple of times, but I've pounced on her and gotten her back in.

Cats are very good at finding their way back home. Doesn't make the waiting any better.

I got stressed just watching one of your tour of SuperHappyFunland videos. You seriously need a quiet space that's all your own. Maybe it's all the competing noise.

Noise is EXTREMELY difficult for aspies, especially loud live music like the type at SHFL. I can't imagine what it would be like to live NEXT to a live concert venue! And in the same building! I have to use a fan every night to drown out all the strange noises around here, I live in an area where there are one acre lots and the residents think they can do whatever because the cops rarely venture out here, so there are Mexicans who hold outdoor movie nights and parties with live bands and 7 foot tall speakers blaring Mexican music, and Russians arguing with each other and working on their illegal car shops, and the guy who is always beating his wife and the Pakistanis who zoom up and down the street in cheap Asian sports cars.

There are about five very large homes in here all owned by a single extended Pakistani clan, and they refuse to mingle with the neighbors and they do whatever they feel like. I come home and there are two dozen cars blocking the road because the Mexicans down the street have their extended family here from the Southland for another party. (At least they have a loving family, but the commotion is awful.) The same people let their little dogs roam all over and don't seem to care, and the dogs keep chasing cars and getting flattened, so they go out and buy more dogs, rinse lather repeat. I don't bother with the neighbors, I just stay in my insulated house and crank up the fans and I don't hear it.

Sorry I hijacked your thread Poopy, but I know how difficult noise can be, but I can't imagine what you go through. I looked at your map on your site and it looks like you live in a fairly dense inner city industrial area, although I've never been to Houston I know that it really sprawls and your street address starts with "38" and has four numerals so you must be fairly close to downtown. There's plenty of opportunities for an unwary feline to meet with doom in such an area.

You have said that you live with a guy who cheats on you regularly and an assistant who steals anything not nailed down, and now you're saying that there's loud noise and concerts every night and you have to be the bartender and serve drunk people more drinks in an uncontrolled environment (that's why you called yourself "a-social bartender" earlier, and you explained why in an earlier post). I assume that if you could leave and go somewhere else you would have by now. I don't know what to tell you, and Texas makes getting disability checks impossible, in fact people move there because "welfare leeches ain't stealing my money in Texas".

Not everyone in Texas loves noise:

And I continue to hope Entropy returns. I'm almost as anxious worrying as I was when Harley went on her walkabout.

I already tried to leave years ago...but had a rough time of it.
There is not a whole lot out there for an executively dysfunctional non-driving 34-year-old with very little education...I do have a lot of freedom in my current lifestyle that I would not have otherwise.
My partner no longer "cheats" on me because we are now poly...he has my blessing to sleep with whoever he likes.
All this stuff has little to do with my missing cat.
We live 20 blocks from Downtown...we are surrounded partially by a field and a train track.
There is also a lot of residential area.

I hate the noise but I am used to it. I wear ear plugs and noise canceling headphones on a regular basis...
My cat was raised in that environment from the time she was very small. She loved hanging out during concerts...she loved all the attention from people.

I am aware that the place where I live is a highly improbable environment for a person on the spectrum...but all I can say is that one gets used to it...
I have driven crazy by all the harsh sound frequencies...I have been stretched to the breaking point on numerous occasions....I have developed tolerance over time.

Somebody called in a tip on Entropy this evening. They recognized her from the sign I had up at the grocery store. I went to where the guy thought he spotted her but it was getting dark...I saw a cat that looked sorta like her in somebody's yard...she sat staring at me but wouldn't come when I called. Then she bounded off and a big tom cat emerged and followed after her...so either that was not Entropy, or Entropy has a boyfriend...(she's not quite 6 months old..I didn't think she'd be ready to go into heat...but we were fully intending to get her fixed) I also find it hard to believe that she would not recognize me or come when called..she was very attached.

In any case, I am going back to the same area tomorrow.

My neighborhood is lousy with cats....seriously...there are cats everywhere....so plenty around for her to eat and such...

Something i neglected to mention was that a few days before her disappearance, a new kitten mysteriously showed up at our front door...a fat fluffy 8-10 week old Siamese/Himalayan...Flakey immediately grew attached because he has a long history of keeping Siamese cats around...his mom sorta breeds them...I wanted to give her to his mom initially, but it looks like we are keeping her.
my Friend and I have started calling her Tofu.

I don't think that Enty woulda run off because of the new kitten...she had just started playing with little Tofu.

Enty was snuggling in my lap at the bar as usual on the night that she disappeared.

Driving around in the car looking for Enty, we did see the big lanky Siamese tom cat who is probably the new kitten's dad...

Nobody has posted any signs about the new kitten, though she seems very healthy and well cared for. I wonder if she was left on our doorstep or if she just happened to wander all alone from way on the other side of the railroad tracks...in the rain...without getting wet... :?:

Not sure what life is like over ther in TX but here at night the neighbour hoods and downtown come alive with cats. If you wander around in the wee small hours they are everywhere. so they obviously do alright without their lords and masters. Good luck finding Entropy Poopy.
