It's more like pass everything but the chance to get rid of them. All kinds of stupid electrical problems, especially for GM cars. Emissions crap was awful then too.

Electrical problems, eh? No problem; I just so happen to be an electrical engineer in progress. And I live in a state that doesn't do emissions testing, so certain things might "fall off" now and then. :D Say what you will, I love my bad-ass Camaro and I'm not getting rid of it any time soon.

*ahem* sorry to derail the original thread...

When buying a new car, do any of you go alone or you have to bring a parent or friend? My parents just bought brand news cars today and I went with them. The sales rep went over paperwork and such and I was so confused. I want to cry but I hid my tears. I must be a low life scum.  I don't like cars with the button you press to start or turn off car. I don't like navigation system either. Those things confuse me.

I took my dad with me when I test drove and subsequently bought my car 3 years ago. It was brand new so I didn't need to worry about mechanical inspections and history checks. It's a smaller car (Mitsubishi Lancer) so it doesn't have all those bells and whistles that may confuse some such as yourself; CD player, central locking, air con....that's pretty much all my car came with besides it's spoiler and rims. I have my own portable navigation thingo which I plug into the cigarette lighter.

So my advice: get a smaller car, not one of those spaceships with six thousand buttons inside.

And try to find a deal where you can get all the onroad costs included in the car's price (registration, third party insurance, stamp duty).

When you get your next new car, are you going to take your dad with you? I'm possibly get a new car maybe in 2013. I do like Toyota Corollas. It's small and compact. I did drive mom's Camry when she had it but felt it was too big for me. I'm 5'4. I want to get a Corolla that has a leather interior too. Right now I have a 2003 Corolla. It doesn't have leather interior, so when my dog is in the car hairs are everywhere. I did look at the Lexus IS 250 but it is way too fancy for me.

I don't know when my next new car will be (though this thread made me interested and I went and looked at Lancer Ralliarts on the net today *drewl*). That was my first ever car purchase so it seemed important to bring my dad along. I dunno if I'll take my dad next time to the dealership. It will depend if I have a hubby/BF to take his place :P

Corollas are nice. I'm not sure whether leather upholstery comes as an option though, not on a base model at least.

I have the S model and it has black fabric. I don't think in 2003 I had the option of getting leather. Plus it was before I even got a dog. But I think having leather interior would be better. It's easier to clean too.

http://www.toyota.com/corolla/interior-360.html

The S and XRS have the charcoal leather interior.

I also thought about upgrading to a Camry. The SE and XLE both have leather interior. I don't like the tan color.
My dad had an Avalon but sold that and got the Lexus SUV. I looked at the Avalon, and they don't have the color interior that I like. I most likely will need dad to go look at cars with me. I did talk to a woman in her early 50s and she says when she looks at houses and cars she needs to bring her roommate with her. Her roommate knows more about those things. So I guess I shouldn't feel bad. A poster did mention the more people I bring to a car dealership I can get a good deal. I think I rather stick with a Corolla since it's small and compact. I'm petite too. I don't want a DVD navigation system. I don't need that XM radio bluetooth, IPOD hook up. I want to have car keys. Cars these days have this button you press to turn on and off the car and that would confuse me I think. I don't want back up camera. Some of these luxury cars of all that and I don't want a luxury car like a Lexus, Infiniti or Acura.
