Actually I've spent all my years in the continental US. The Frenchman comment is my poor attempt at either ethnic humor (wanna read some Italian jokes???) or casting some doubt of which to give my countrymen the benefit.

I'd like to believe bipeds are better in other countries. They probably aren't-- although they definitely seemed cooler in New Mexico-- but that's called giving the species the benefit of the doubt.

I'm betting on American.

Also apologizing on behalf of my stupid, judgmental, self-absorbed nation.

Conditions in Europe improved in the 19th century because they sent all the f***tards across the pond.

The US is no better or worse than any other nation that was in our position (the British certainly weren't humble in the Victorian era, for instance). What I find odd is that our culture has gone global in a way no other has. European cultures have basically merged with ours, and young people all over Asia and the Middle East want to be just like us. I think that's why anti-Americanism is so strong -- our utter cultural dominance makes us seem more nefarious and powerful than we really are.

They put the world, and this language, where it was today. One of many things to be grateful to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and (Northern) Ireland for.

Indeed. If it's the English, we understand. The English are more obsessed with paedophilia down here than hating the Scottish... mostly. ;)

at least you picked the nationality that we all love to hate, I'll give you that ;)

I'm inclined to go with the English now, they do act quite arrogant at times. I've always had the impression that they're not crazy about their kids though. might be just the mentality.

I'm only admitting this for reassurance of some people I see who wondered if I was talking about their nation but the nation I was referring to is Germany.

Germans in Scotland? O_o

personally I love Germans, although they're somewhat lacking in the humour department. no idea on their stance about pedophiles.

you could always pull the Nazi card you know 8)

Indeed I have come across quite a few Germans here. But it's because I live in the middle of Edinburgh where it's a bit more international than the rest of Scotland. It would be different elsewhere in the country especially outside the university cities. For example, I recently moved to a new flat and there's a German living in the stair.
