I'd trade with your government social assistance program any day though as well as your medical system. It's better than in North America that's for sure.

What I sometimes think we need is a government willing to put a 500% tax on all products made in China...

Tell you what, why don't we meet in a nice, quiet area so that it's not too stressful for you from the noises of everyday life for you?
What do you think? I don't like seeing you upset like this.
Plus around my area isn't near as noisy or crowded and could help in terms of financially getting yourselves back on your feet.

That sounds like a cool idea! You should try that Joe, IMO.

I don't advocate autarky -- I'm just recognizing that government budget deficits are to a large degree caused by trade deficits. (Note that unlike in Greece, the debt problems of Spain and Ireland started in the private sector, and only became a government problem due to bank bailouts).

Why should we tolerate high unemployment being dumped on us by mercantilist countries like China (and to a lesser extent, Germany and Japan)?

Of course, the other main cause of trade deficits is oil imports -- we should build some of those "Green Freedom" machines that Los Alamos has looked into (nuclear reactors that make motor fuels from water and atmospheric CO2) to do something about this...

^^^ Easy now, I was just razzing... This belongs in another thread. ;) (One I'd happily participate in, even if I don't know the buzzwords some groupies like to throw around...)
