Most of that us text book. I also dont get sick often. in fact in 20 years i can only being sick 3 times. the other 3 times were allergic reactions to foods. however i have cyliac (gluten and dairy allergy) so if i eat bread i will get cramps which lead to a panic attack. After learning this my anxiety went down but still if i wake up in the middle of the night or have to burp or get indigestion i get anxious. I think my biggest issue right now is finding a job that i can handle. Also one where having an allergic reaction or panic attack is seen as something i can not work for a few hours. I am looking into being a grocery store stocker.

I used to be that way as a child. If I saw or smelled vomitus, I'd start to gag.

agoraphobia is a phobia commonly accompanying emetophobia. As is something like cilaphobia, the fear the food you are eating will poison you.

Yep (Probably wasnt at full blown phobia stage though. not sure what the criteria is for that ). Had it until I was 14. To be honest, I scared my self out of it. Back when I was 12-13 I was going through a breakdown. Id get a panic attack and BOOM, id start to worry about vomiting. Then id probably worry so much Id vomit. So eventually I scared my self out of it (Albiet not willingly)

Alot of people with this phobia seem to have some traumatic thing happen as children involving vomit. I don't know what mine was. But with most people with this phobia vomiting only re tramuatises us, so we get more scared not less.

Yeah that would make sense. Im not sure where I got the fear from... I think it was from when I had 4 stomach vomiting bugs in ONE Winter when I was 11. (It was that bad that my lips were all saw)

The fact you could even drink whiskey makes it seem to me like you had the fear but not the actual phobia. I am scared to death of drinking or being around people drinking.

I had it up until 22, all I ate was pizza, french fries and water :?

Eventually I went out with someone and didn't want to embarass myself with eating nothing, so I just did it and got over it. I guess my fear of her not liking me was greater, lol.

Regardless. Every phobia is curable to some extent. I went to therapy for 6 months for it.

Funny! 1 day after writing that reply I was badly sick. I can honestly say I didnt really feel any fear even though this is the first time vomiting since I was 14 I think. Sweet. :/

Well mad bones. I will tell you to enjoy it while it lasts. Last time i was sick it wasn't to bad and i only felt bad for a day. My axiety left me for about 2 weeks. then i had the same anxiety but not over getting sick. And after a month i was right back to square 1. Except now i know conciously it isn't really that bad. It is helpful but im still scared enough to shake when i feel too full or to hungry.

Emetophobes can relapse after getting sick anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. But we all feel like "oh thats not so bad i can't believe i was so afraid of that, so now im not anymore" right after wards. But it can also lead to traumatizing us, and obsessions leading back to our last episode.

I hope that yours is gone for good though.

Yep! I totally get what you mean and I have suffered similar before.
It has to be said I can get a little freaked out I'm too hungry or too full but I try my best to shake it off as an irrational thought and sidetrack my self which thank god works for me but unfortunately not for everyone sadly
