Thanks for the replies... I feel peaceful today. Like we set her free.

About those pictures... maybe it would be wise to wait before doing that. But only you can tell what is best for you.

I don't feel competent in keeping animals (that's why I help them indirectly), but another major reason against having my own pet is that I've been too sad about the death of some animals I knew only quite briefly.

cry... and remember good things.

i was little when my favorite pet died... and i threw such a fit that my parents got another kitty that looked just like the old one and while it made me happy at first, the pet didn't turn out like my old one.

i never did come to like the new pet as much either... cause he wasn't my old pet. i got over it... cause i learned the hard way that you just have to let go of some things and accept that it's natural..

my old pet had to be put down too cause he had a cancer and was in a lot of pain... that was something i had to grow to accept too.

i'm so sorry about your friends pet.

I went totally nuts tonight. Wailing and howling. I don't feel any better for it. I need to talk to my pet, give her a hug. I don't like being apart from her. She's probably lonely now, I don't know anything about the afterlife.

^It's a cat, dude.

I hope you'll be okay, hale. You can rest knowing that your cat has loved you for a long while, and that it's resting peacefully.

I feel so dumb I didn't see this thread earlier.

You now have an opportunity to save the life of another cat. Go rescue a cat or kitten from an animal shelter (which will put them down only because they can't find homes for them all).

:)

added/edit
If others in your house don't want a cat, tell them you saw some mice.

I don't think so. Can you imagine any other cat ever having a better life than you gave Meg? What sort of heaven would it be without dogs (and cats too for you cat people ). I'm sure if there is a heaven, Meg is in it.

Yeah I'm atheist so I do not buy into the afterlife but if there was an afterlife there would be no point in the individual living on as separate beings. It make more since for them to become part of the whole life force.

In my atheistic view that happens anyway. Everything about us is just part of the evolution of the universe.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread earlier.

Oh, it is hard when we lose good pet friends! But as others have said, she couldn't have had a better home or have been more well-loved.

I think it's a good idea to have photos of Meg and talk about her, what she did, her funny ways, it keeps her alive in your memory. She had a long, happy life with you. I think you will miss her for a long time but it does get easier over time, and the sad memories of losing her will be replaced by the memories of the fun you had together. Honestly. Think about the fun times you had together, and yes, at the end, you did set her free.
