Your mother's probably worried about whether you'll function without her. So she covers up her fears with denial and jokes. In other words, it's all her issue and has nothing to do with you.

As for Mr. Wonderful, well, my sister had a similar situation with some girl spreading nasty rumors about her. Lets just say after a little "discussion", the girl was carried away in an ambulance and my sister got a couple days suspension. It's a miracle she wasn't brought up on criminal charges.

The dog sounds like a good thing.

But you seem to be able to function alright. Many of use can't form relationships and whatnot, and no one gives us dogs. Perhaps what your mom is trying to say is that there are autistics who need a dog far more than you? I'm not criticizing, just suggesting.
