Yes, I will do. I shall have to simply address it to 'Manager' as I cannot find the relevant name online. I know it is a male, but that is about it. One thing is for sure, I haven't the courage to show my face in there again for sometime. I shall have to walk a ways to get my food for now. I must have looked like a real demented so and so.

Graelwyn, I would have reacted exactly the same as you did and I'm 38!

That's actually not far off her current age!

Oh, and congrats on 700 posts!

Graelwyn, I've had similar meltdowns in public, and I completely understand how you're feeling. I rarely venture out much anymore, so haven't had one in a long while. But it is awful, I know.

Is there another store you could shop at? The way staff treated you is appalling, and if I were you, I would never go back there again.

Also, George's behavior is mighty suspicious...Is it possible that he planned on keeping your purse?

I can definitely sympathize with you. While my incidences in public have been minor. I don't cry as much as get angry and it has worked very much to my detriment on more than one occasion. Only got walked out of a store by security once years ago and it was rather embarrassing.

I try to head those off at the pass. As you feel them coming on, try to find a calm spot to sit (car, bathroom etc). Walk away from the situation etc.

Thanks guys...KBABZ, 7 years is quite a difference lol, I am only 31. Beaker, there was nowhere to go and I was just in a state too quickly. I mean, I just wanted my keys and my card, or at least the keys...at first, I didn't even consider the card could be cancelled, a new one issued and my mother could post me some money, I just had no keys to get into the house or my room, which is my haven and that was the worst feeling to me. I totally crumbled under that thought, and it was made worse by no one understanding or giving a damn about my situation. I never want that to happen again.

My car is my haven , I love to drive, that helps me immensely

There are ways to get past just about any lock. A cordless drill, 1/4" drill bit and a screw driver will go past almost any lock.

In the future, if you or any or your friends have some modest tools, they should be able to get you in quickly.

A hide-a-key works wonders too (fake rock, etc).

Yeah, what the f**k do I know? Obviously my life has been full of happiness, joy and good fortune. Which is how I've developed my "live and let live" policy, and not as a direct result of years of conflict, pain, upset, misunderstanding and fear.

We live beyond the experience of most people. Occasionally we do things that are beyond the understanding of most people, and unsurprisingly, they react badly. They're not capable of handling obsessions, hypersensitivity, innappropriate reactions and meltdowns. Although I am deeply saddened by the insensitive reactions of many people, I find that I cannot blame them.

Are there any other supermarkets near you, Graelwyn?

I shop at Waitrose (John Lewis) and the staff are ever so helpful there. ASDA has always had a nasty reputation. They are owned by Wal-Mart, you know! Failing that, Tesco aren't too bad either - better than ASDA anyway.

The thing is that the shop floor staff are paid peanuts. As a result, they don't really care, and to be honest if I had to do that job I probably wouldn't care about individual customers either. The problem is with the system - capitalism. Not the individual people. They are probably too busy. Shops like Marks and Spencer or Waitrose pay their staff a decent wage and so you can expect the service to be better - which it is. Or perhaps the large supermarkets aren't for you. Try the corner shops a bit more. It is harder to go wrong in a smaller shop.

Yes, Waitrose is my preferred supermarket too. Sainsbury's and Tesco are hideous but Asda is a place I will NOT set foot inside. Asda = meltdown, for me!

The nearest tesco is about a 20 min bus ride away which isn't much good in the evening which is when I like to go. There is a Sainsburies that is a 10 min bus ride away... I don't mind there so much as the food is better quality than ASDA. I suppose I go to Asda for convenience as it is only an 8 minute walk from where I live.

About the public meltdown:
I am 43 and still have them. They're horrible - I sympathize with you. I have learned to internalize them. For instance, in last week's multiple hostile NT-induced meltdown, I squeezed my hands together so tightly my fingernails dug into my palms, repeated to myself "I will not leave - I will get through this - just keep breathing". Five days later I'm still cocooning, avoiding people as much as possible, wearing earplugs, etc.

Do you find that each time something like this happens, you either become more withdrawn or a whole lot more pessimistic about people in general? I am more nervy since then and infinitely more untrusting. It really does have a residual effect. My mother called up the store to find out why my bag was not given back to me to begin with and they refused to put her through to management, so she is writing a letter and I have written a letter. I wont let this drop, and now have a real loathing for the ass who witheld my bag from me. I am fairly sure it was deliberate and resulted from my accidentally offending another staff member who was also his friend.
