Fired for being overqualified? That's f*****g inane. If anything, that should have been a reason for them to hold onto you, and perhaps maybe even put you into a higher paying position. Hopefully they come to their senses and beg for you to come back, or better yet, you get employed by another company that treats you better so you can rub it in their face.

Happened to me twice, more or less. I had a temporary job and they wanted to offer it to me permanently, but when I told them I was planning to go to university they told me "then we wouldn't want to hire you anyway, you are too educated" (????). Another time I wanted to apply to a crappy job and they told me they were looking for high school dropouts specifically, and I couldn't apply because I had a high school diploma (?????). Both times my highest education was a high school diploma with decent grades, nothing fancy. Of course in reality just having a high school diploma means you are severely underqualified for a lot of jobs but these "human resource" people live in a fantasy land.

I know that feeling. But in my case, half of the company was laid off and with me they waited until my contract ended. For me it was a crappy world environment anyways and I worked as a system admin for an insurance company.

Next gig will in all likelihood be Linux administration, QA or *cringe* DevOps. Part of me really wants to institute a policy of re-negotiating contracts the same day I'm asked to do anything that wasn't in the description.
